Clara Ruth King was born September 3, 1917 on the Croton Creek Bar Z Ranch Southeast of Reydon/Rankin, Oklahoma. She went to be with Jesus on January 11, 2018 at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 8 days at the Bar Z Ranch home, where she was born.

The daughter of William K. and Faith M. King, she loved the strenuous ranch life of roping, working cattle and breaking horses to ride. Clara had a wonderful childhood with Christian parents and enjoyed playing the pump organ to accompany her father on the "fiddle". She loved the challenge of growing up in the "Dust Bowl, Depression Era". She helped provide wild game for the table.

Clara loved school, was valedictorian of the Eighth and Twelfth grades and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Her father's mother, who was a retired school teacher, had a great influence on Clara and taught her to crochet, weave rugs on a loom and make pillows from goose down. Clara attended the Advanced Program at Oklahoma University for a Master in Social Work, Business Administration and was a Licensed Social Worker. She also passed the CPA exam from Oklahoma University. Clara married Lester R. Davis on March 12, 1938 and to this union 2 children were born, Leon John Davis and Linda Joyce Davis. Clara and Lester purchased the Bar Z Ranch in 1954, returning to live in the home where she was born. They hosted a 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1988, a King Reunion in 1989, and Centennial Birthday of the Ranch in 2000 at the Ranch. Their family hosted their 65th and 75th wedding anniversary in the Sweetwater Church fellowship room and their 70th Wedding Anniversary and her 100th birthday celebration were at the Centennial Dempsey School.

Clara taught school and taught music twenty years, was State Music Chairman four years of the American Legion Auxiliary and wrote the words & music to the song adopted as the State Auxiliary Song. "Oklahoma Sunset" is among her other compositions. Clara was State President of the Oklahoma Soil & Water Conservation Newsletter during that time. She was State Editor of the Official State Business & Professional Women's Publication for 4 years. Clara was President of Oklahoma City Charter Club of this organization. She retired as a CPA and did the family taxes all of her life.

Clara was an employee of the State Department of Human Services for 25 years where she held several positions including Child Welfare Worker, Computer Analyst and Programmer, Auditor, Staff Training Specialist to the 22 District Attorney Districts and also helped develop the Child Support Program. Gov. Boren selected her to head the Interagency Task Force for Indochina Refugees. Gov. Bellmon appointed her as chairman of the State Youth Committee & she developed State Youth Seminars. Clara was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame in Elk City in 1993. She authored the book, "The Winds of Change on Croton Creek" and it still continues to sell. She represented Oklahoma at the Regional meeting of the American Public Welfare Association. Her presentation was printed in the State Publication.

Clara enjoyed using her musical talent to serve the Lord as Reydon Church pianist, Sweetwater Church Pianist, piano accompanist for the 101 Gospel Singers, Sweetwater Church Men's Quartet, the Roger Mills Home Demonstration Club and the Reydon High School "Button & Bows". Clara accepted Christ as her Savior August 4, 1934 at the Reydon Baptist Church, where she was a teacher of the Adult Women's Class. Clara was a longtime member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church where she taught a Women's Sunday School for several years.
 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lester R. Davis, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, Bonnie Douglas and Naomi Johnson, a grandson, John Rollin Reimer, a great grandson, Justin Davis and a niece, Betty Rose Rios.
 

Clara is survived by her son, Leon J. Davis and wife, Robin of Washington State; her daughter, Linda Shreve, of Stillwater, OK; 1 sister, Rhea Lee Douglas; 8 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren, 2 nieces, 5 nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
