Services for Joe D. Shires, 82, of Allen are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Allen First Baptist Church, Rev. Chad Kaminski will officiate assisted by Rev. Coy Howry. Burial will follow at the Allen Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Allen Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Shires died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at an Allen nursing home. He was born September 6, 1932 in Pottsboro, Texas to Howard and Opal Seat Shires. He attended Texas schools and graduated from Denison, Texas High School.

He married Patsy Cockburn on July 4, 1952. They moved to Allen in 1958. Mr. Shires was a signal maintainer for Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Shires, of the home; three sons, Terry Shires and wife Janet of Tioga, TX, Randy Shires and wife Becky of White Settlement, TX and Kenny Shires and wife Johnna of Allen; his grandchildren, Russhel Chancey and husband Phillip, Chance Shires and wife Jerrica, Tracy Shires and wife Marcia, Alicia Cole and husband Hunter and Scotty Shires; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Johnnie Gibson and Jean Hughes of Denison, TX and one brother, Bob Shires of Denison, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Beverly Gastineau, Dorothy Scibeck and Barbara Shires.

Bearers will be Jearl Knighten, Donnie Johnson, Wally Lewis, Dennis Sappenfield, Jim McDonald and H. C. Spain.
