Emmitt Dewayne Henson, 85, of McAlester, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at his residence. The family will greet visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at Northside Assembly of God Church officiated by Rev. Brian Smith and Rev. Max Boggs. Burial will follow at Arpelar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nick Arnold, Todd Marlett, Ryan Arpoika, Keith Comley, Glenn Morris, and Nicholas Arnold. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Marlett and Rev. Dale Boggs. Emmitt Dewayne was born on March 31, 1936 to Samuel Leonard and Flora (Dement) Henson. He attended Kiowa school. Dewayne then served in the U.S. Army. He married Dortha Jean Marlett on June 15, 1962 in Haltom City, Texas. After his time in the military, Dewayne worked as a journeyman carpenter; and in 1965 started a contracting business, E.D. Henson Construction Company. Dewayne enjoyed gardening, fishing, and mowing. He loved to ride his tractor on his acreages, mowing grass, taking out trees, and planting new trees. He especially enjoyed his family, but his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Flora Henson; wife: Dortha Jean Henson; brothers: Harvey Henson, Leonard Henson, Johnny Henson; and sisters: Clara Holt, Flossie Boggs, Alice Dollar, Bessie Brister, and Wilma Faye Akins. He is survived by his daughter: Vivian Arnold and husband, Nick; grandchildren: Keith Comley and wife, Kameri, Rachel Morris and husband, Glenn, Nicholas Arnold and wife, Andrea, all of McAlester; great-grandchildren: Christy Granneman, Angela Comley, Aryiana Comley, Laila Granneman, Ryan Arpoika, Charleigh Comley, Brooklyn Holden; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
