Leon Moore, 82, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Bishop Chapel of Memories with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Leon was born August 2, 1940, to Doyle and Mary Doris (Kelley) Moore in a log cabin north of highway 270, on White Chimney Rd., in Oklahoma. He grew up in and around the McAlester area from Stuart to Alderson, Oklahoma. He began in the workforce at Pepsi-Cola and Clifton Grocery. He joined the Army National Guard at the age of 15 and often drove the deuce and a half around picking up the local soldiers for drill. Leon joined the U.S. Navy as soon as he was old enough to enlist. He married his loving wife of 57 years on February 1, 1958. During his 20+ year in the Navy they were blessed with two sons, Marlon and Larry Moore. Leon served aboard air ships (blimps) and aircraft carriers during his career and was lucky enough to survive a blimp crash in 1959. After retiring in 1976 the family moved back to the Richville area to begin another chapter in life. He then went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in the Oklahoma State Industries and retired with 20 years. Leon enjoyed horses, motorcycling, boating and his family. Leon is survived by his sons and spouses: Marlon Moore and wife Debbie and Larry Moore and wife Amy. Grandchildren: April Williams, Megan and Travis Showalter, Chelsea and Billy Misener and Kyle and Brandi Moore. Great grandchildren: Riley Showalter, Shane Showalter, Baylee Showalter, Hadley Misener, Cody Misener, RaeAnna Moore, EmmaLee Moore, Aliza Moore and Natalie Moore. He is also survived by his sister Norma and husband Jim Stuart and many nieces and nephews and their families: Mona and Rob Martin, Robby and Holly Robinson, Kathe Wein and Hugh Wein, Peggy and Joseph Bleichroth and Carla and Marshall Spence, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife JoAnn (Giaudrone) Moore, parents Doyle and Mary Doris (Kelley) Moore, grandparents LD and Allie Mae Kelley and IE and Janie Isabel Moore; sister, Loretta McElhaney and many special cousins. Pallbearers will be Travis Showalter, Billy Misener, Kyle Moore, Riley Showalter, Shane Showalter and Gunnar Spence. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Kelley, Jim Kelley and Johnny Munholland
