Betty Maxine Salyers passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 2, 2023. Born on December 22, 1926, in Delaware, Oklahoma. Betty's life was a testament to the power of resilience, love, and the joy of simple pleasures. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rodney Briggs officiating. The burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anthony Salyers, Cameron Fields, Rob Dale, Matthew Dale, Cody Enloe, Garret Enloe, Bob Monto, and Rick Buckner. Betty's life was rich with love and family. She was the beloved mother to daughters: Barbara Monto, married to Robert, and Donna Scrivner, partnered with Rick Buckner, and cherished mother-in-law to Lyn Salyers. Her grandchildren: Karen Dale, Michelle Coverdell, Cameron Fields, Whitlee Sanders, Natalie Hamilton, and Anthony Salyers, were the apples of her eye. Betty was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who all held a special place in her heart. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Salyers, who she married on October 5, 1942, in Independence, Kansas. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with laughter, shared dreams, and unwavering support. They made McAlester their home, creating a warm and welcoming space for all who entered. Betty was also predeceased by her son, Billy Ray Salyers, her parents, Leroy Lewis and Vivian (Worthington) Lewis, and her siblings: Kay Estes, Coleen Ridenour, Shirley Shipley, and Alvin Lewis. Betty worked many years for the McAlester Independent School District, where she retired as a cook and manager in the cafeteria. She was known for her delicious meals, her warm smile, and her ability to make everyone feel special. Betty's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched during her time in McAlester. Her memory will serve as a reminder of the power of love, the importance of family, and the joy that can be found in every day. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all."Betty lived her life as a daring adventure, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and zest. Betty Maxine Salyers, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother will be deeply missed.
