Obituary:
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gary Joseph Emery, 63, of McAlester. Gary went to be with our Lord on Monday, April 24, 2023 in Oklahoma City surrounded by his family. Viewing will be Thursday from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at Indianola Cemetery officiated by Rev. Mike Ross. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Earl Emery, Denny Emery, Mike Emery, Ronald Henry, Christian Orawetz, Harrison Emery, and Bryan Pulchny. Honorary pallbearers will be Jakeb Emery, Steven Cox, Brad Cox, Greg Cox, and numerous family and friends. Gary was born to J.D. and Lounell (Smart) Emery on February 27, 1960 in McAlester. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1979. Gary married Vicki Henry on May 28, 1982 in McAlester. They were happily married for 40 years. Gary was a devoted and loving son, husband, dad, and papa. He will forever be missed and in our hearts. He believed in hard work and enjoyed fixing things. Gary worked as a consultant in the oil field. He was passionate and enjoyed his job. If you needed to get something done, Gary would take care of it. His coworkers were his family away from home and he was loved by his work family. They said Gary was one of a kind and that he made them look forward to going to work. Gary loved to vacation with his family. Branson and Galveston were his go-to places. He enjoyed spending time and cooking for his family every Sunday evening. His favorite meal to cook and eat was roast, beans, and cornbread. He would always have a cup of coffee in his hand. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He always made them a priority. He also enjoyed watching westerns, walking the beach with his wife, slow dancing to country music (on special occasions with Vicki and Shayna), silly songs, teaching his kids and coworkers, and gardening. He was a straight shooter. He was known for his integrity and being generous. He was always ready to go the extra mile for family, friends, and strangers. When he was asked, he gave good advice. He was wise, genuine, resourceful, and a give-you-the-shirt-off-his-back type of man. He was preceded in death by his father: J.D. Emery; brothers: Jim Emery, infant Robert Dee Emery; sister: Freda (Emery) Sebree; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Gary is survived by his mother: Lounell Emery of McAlester; wife: Vicki Emery of McAlester; daughter: Shayna Pulchny and husband, Bryan of Crowder; son: Jakeb Emery and wife, Faith of McAlester; grandchildren: Elijah Pulchny, Ella Jane Pulchny, twins Quinn Emery and Arie Emery; brother: Earl Emery and wife, Debra of McAlester; brothers-in-law: Christian Orawetz and wife, Beth Ann of Cedar Park, Texas, Ronald Henry and wife, Sheila of McAlester; nieces and nephews: Harrison Emery and wife, Kristi of McAlester, Ami Patterson and husband, Matt of Stuart, Cory Henry and wife, Jennifer of Broken Arrow, Matthew Henry and wife, Kara of McAlester, Amanda Williams and husband, Michael of McAlester, Sophia Orawetz, Lukas Orawetz, both of Cedar Park, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
