James Edward Capers, 74, of Hartshorne, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. James was born on November 20, 1948 in McAlester to Clarence and Ona Capers. He was a lifelong resident of this area and retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He was an ordained minister and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his children, Lisa and Lacricia Capers of Hartshorne, OK, Jaime and Rachelle Tucker of Dresden, OH, and James Edward Capers, Jr. of Hartshorne, OK; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Neoma and Tom Tennison of Shreveport, LA and Karen and Steve Bray of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ona and Clarence Capers; two brothers, Clarence Capers, Jr., Kenneth Capers and a great-grandson, Kingstin Tucker. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Brumley-Mills Chapel in Hartshorne with Pastor Tyler McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne. Active pallbearers will be Joey Street, Brian Rich, Alfred Rich, Darrell Templeton, Doug Jennings and Frankie Johnson.
