Brittie Louise Boatman, 84, of McAlester, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at her residence. The family will receive visitors from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the home of Norma Benson, 1211 E. Osage in McAlester. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1 at Crowder Cemetery with Dr. Tim Russell officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Brittie was born December 5, 1929 in Crowder, the daughter of Norman & Foy Smith Wininger. She attended school in Crowder and shortly after she married William Boatman on June 6, 1946 in McAlester. Brittie was a stay at home mom and raised her daughter until she was old enough to be at home alone at which time she began working as a pharmacy technician. During Vietnam, she began working at the Army Ammunition Plant. Brittie later returned as a pharmacy technician working at Oklahoma State Penitentiary until her retirement. She retired to be at home with her husband when his health was failing him. She enjoyed sewing, keeping house and cooking for her family. All of Brittieā€™s life she had a love for cats, she would take care of her own plus any strays that would need her love. Survivors include her daughter: Eva Darlene (Boatman) Bower of McAlester; granddaughters: Roberta (Bower) & Billy Lindersmith of Nowata, Rikki (Bower) & Sam Knight of Summerfield. Also, great-grandchildren: Aaron Bower & wife, Heather of Nowata, Andrew Lindersmith of Bartlesville, Jewellia Hanson of McAlester, Sammy Knight of Summerfield, great-great-grandson: Gunner Wayne Hanson of McAlester, sister: Norma Jean Benson of McAlester; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister: Barbara Dean Vaught, and brother-in-law: J.C. Vaught.
