Pittsburg County, Oklahoma

Bishop Funeral Home
June 3, 2021
Submitted by: Carol Rice

Known to all as "Carol"… was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. At the age of 74, she passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on June 26, 2023 in the home she shared with her husband John, in Arpelar, OK after a courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Carol was born on September 1, 1948 in South Carolina and was adopted and raised near Quincy, IL. Carol spent her childhood in Illinois where she graduated High School. She spent much of her earlier years in the Eufaula, OK. However, Carol had been a 40-year resident of the Arpelar community to which she called home. Carol's first marriage produced two devoted sons, Dale and Curtis Ellison. She later married Glen Jones to whom she was a dedicated wife until his passing in 2017. Carol loved working, and had only been retired since 2019 after a successful career of 35 years with Wal-Mart where she made many long-time friends. Carol was a very dedicated member of the Arpelar Nazarene Church, where she served on the board and held the position of secretary & treasurer for several years, and was loved by all. At the time of her death, Carol was happily married to John Fields; who had been her loving husband since 2019. Carol is survived by her husband, John Fields, 2 sons, Dale Lee Ellison and his wife Jessica, and Curtis Dean Ellison and his wife, Brandy; 7 grandchildren: Levi, Montana, Cherish, Calli, Jordan, Korbin and Easton, and 6 great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her brother, Donny Shepard and his family, as well as numerous children, grandchildren, and family to whom she loved and called her own through marriage. Carol is preceded in death by her father Donald Shepard a granddaughter, Gracelynn Ellison and Glen Jones. Besides spending time with her family and friends, Carol was a sports fan and had a love for the simplest of pleasures in life, like enjoying meals and watching old movies with her husband, visiting with long-time friends, and studying scripture with a warm cup of coffee in hand. On occasion, she would enjoy a tiny glass of wine or a sweet treat before turning in for the night. Carol had a bright and energetic personality and was known for her kind heart and her enduring love for God. She touched many lives with her generosity and kindness and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services in celebration of her life at 10 AM on Friday, June 30, at the Cemetery in Arpelar, OK. There will be no public visitation. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the ALS Association @ donate.als.org. Pallbearers will be, Levi Reynolds, Montana Ellison, Korbin Ellison, Gary Don Meadows, Jimmy Reeves, Matthew Patterson, Eric Proe and Richard Shropshire. Honorary pallbearers will be, Donnie Sheppard, Edmond Shropshire, Arthur Shropshire, Sonny Blevins, Durrell Wimberly, Ronnie Hayes and Dale Sutterfied.
