Lehman “Doc” Ferrill Patterson, 96, died Monday, February 4, 2008 in the Linwood Village Nursing Home.
He was born October 25, 1911 in Randolph County, Arkansas to Cornealius Russell and Eliza Jane (Chaney) Patterson.
At the age of 1 year old, and his father’s death, the family moved back to Ripley County, Missouri, where they lived until 1922. They moved at that time to Payne County, Oklahoma settling in the Cimarron Bend area.
Lehman married Madge Holden, daughter of Hugh and Elsie Holden, at Stillwater, Oklahoma August 17, 1935. To this union four children were born, Delores, Delbert, Gilbert and Willard.
Lehman farmed at Ripley and Mehan area for several years as well as rough necked. In 1949 he moved to the Hillside Community, north of Cushing, and went to work for Blackwell Oil and Gas. He retired with Sun Oil in 1976.
He was a long time member of Ripley and Cushing, First Church of God.
He enjoyed playing dominos and the companionship of friends at the Cushing Senior Citizen, until this past year when his health declined.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband Delores and Bill Allen, sons and wives, Delbert and Doris Patterson, Gilbert and Joyce Patterson, Willard and Barbara Patterson all of Cushing; grandchildren Bruce and Shari Allen of St. Croix, V.I., Steve and Liz Allen of Stroud, Vincent Patterson of Missouri, Robin and Doug Schey of Findley Ohio, Mike and Alisa Hixon of Dallas TX, Cindy and Randy Thompson of Austin, TX, Barry and Karla Patterson of Cushing, Chaney Robinson of Cushing and Belinda and John Martinelle of Cushing; 21 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Goldie Patterson and Joyce Holden, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Madge Patterson, who died in 2000; a grandson, Willard Lehman Patterson Jr.; his father and mother, C.R. and Eliza Jane Patterson; one sister, Dorothy and his brother’s Earl, Gilbert (Bert) and Carl Patterson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8, 2008 at 10 A.M. in the First Church of God with Reverend Merlin Mosher of Bristow, officiating.
Serving as casket bearers will be Bruce Allen, Steve Allen, Vincent Patterson, Mike Hixon, Randy Thompson, Barry Patterson and John Martinelle.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
