Daley Junior Cox, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 23, 2008 in Cushing.

He was born October 3, 1927 to Elmer and Effie Foster Cox at Yale, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Cushing, Ripley and Yale areas.

Dale was born again along with his wife at age 78 and she at 86 by Brother Bob Toland in 2006.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Recovery Ship during WWII as a boiler operator. He saw many places in the world and learned much about the ships.

During his service he participated in the Nations Man-in-Space Program as a member of the Mercury Recovery Force, when Commander Alan Shepard, Jr. U.S.N. successfully completed a historic space flight in May of 1961.

Daley worked with his father at the Cushing Wholesale Grocery for several years. He worked 17 years at the Grand Lake Sports Center, building custom rod and reels. Fishing was a great joy in his life.

They moved to Perkins where he worked at the Perkins Building Supply until he retired and moved back to Cushing where he had a lawn mower repair business, repairing many mowers that seemed to be non-repairable, which gave him great pride.

Throughout his life he had a love for music and songs. He taught himself to play the guitar, one of a few who played it up side down, being left handed. He also rewrote many songs and poems.

Daley loved his wife and family and took much pride in their accomplishments. One special love was for his cat, Callie.

He proclaimed God as his King of all Kings and shared this testimony with many.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Eleanor Graham Cox of the home; four daughters, Brenda Turney of Grove, Donna Brandon of Topeka, KS, Vickie Troth of Cushing and Nikki Hart of California; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister Barbara McCoy and her husband Rick of Stillwater; sister-in-law Midge Cox of Cushing; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Daley was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers and one infant son.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Perkins Church of the Firstborn with brother Bob Toland and Pete Windiate in charge.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be Jim Mathia, Larry Cypret, Roger Cypret, Rudy Cypret, David Cox, Dale Cox, Adam Henington and Catlin Cox. Serving as honorary casketbearer is Mike McCoy.
