Margie L. Benson, longtime Cushing resident, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 25, 2008 at the age of 91 years.

The daughter of the late Robert Royce and Nellie Sheperd Royce, Margie was born on April 13, 1917 in Walters, OK and was raised and educated in that area.

She was united in marriage to Ray Benson in 1935 and to this union one daughter, Barbara, and one son, Ronald, were born. Ray preceded her in death in 1968.

In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, the couple was involved in Foreign oil service, having spent time in Venezuela and Singapore and during this time Margie became an avid bridge player.

Margie had owned and operated Margie’s Style Shop in Edmond for over 17 years.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was very active in all phases of the church.

She was a member of the P.E.O.; Hypatia Club; an honorary member of the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary having volunteered over 4000 hours, with the majority of those hours spent crocheting baby blankets that she donated to the hospital to sell in the gift shop. She also donated baby caps to babies born in the hospital.

Margie enjoyed baking and was well known for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, that she brought to the church functions and bake sales for the church.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Daves and her husband Jim of Cushing; one son, Ronald R. Benson; four grandchildren, Robert Benson, D’Lorah Long and her husband Steve, Kevin Daves and his wife Vicki and Wayne Daves and his wife Jamie; seven great grandchildren, Dr. Ashlee Waugh and her husband Dr. Scott Waugh, Hank Anderson and his wife Jenny, Abe Anderson and his fiancé Jenny, Aaron Daves, Brandon Daves, Haydan Daves and Adam Long; three great-great-grandchildren, Veronica Anderson, Marlee Anderson and Benjamin Waugh; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Royce and one great-grandson Taylor Daves.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 at 2 P.M. in the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tom Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at 4:00 P.M. in the Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
