Joseph Wayne Wilson, lifelong Cushing resident and retired postal clerk worker, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 85 years.

The son of the late Sylvester W. Wilson and Ruth Tate Wilson, Joe was born on May 1, 1921 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School.

Joe was united in marriage to Juanita Jean Tarman on October 10, 1946 in Cushing and to this union two children, Joe and Catherine were born. Juanita preceded him in death on February 22, 1996.

He had worked for the city of Cushing in the light plant for several years prior to working for the United States Postal Service, retiring in the mid 1980’s.

Joe was a member of the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church; a member of the Cushing Masonic Lodge and a 32 Degree Mason with his Consistory at Guthrie; a member of the V.F.W.; the Elks Lodge and was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving during World War II in the South Pacific.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching O.U. Football.

Survivors include one son, Joe Wilson and his wife Joyce of Cushing; one daughter, Catherine Wilson of Moore; three grandchildren, Joey Wilson and his wife Tammy, Mike McDaniel and his wife Brenda and Gene McDaniel and his wife Teresa; five great-grandchildren, Kelcey Wilson, Kamery Wilson, Joey Aaron Wilson, Nicki McDaniel and Matthew McDaniel; one great-great-grandchild, Conner Retherford; one sister, Mary Logan and her husband Raymond of Cushing and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by to brothers, Frank and Jim Wilson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. in the First Christian Church with Dr. Larry Haney, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
