Franklin Obie Cochran
May 13, 1917 ~ June 3, 2001


Franklin Obie Cochran, 84, Cushing, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Cochran was born May 13, 1917, to Rufus John Elvis Cochran and Martha Elizabeth [Schooley] Cochran in Little Rock, Ark.

He was reared and educated in the Slick and Edna area.

He was united in marriage to Thelma Crauthers January 4, 1944, in Chandler and the family eventually made their home in Cushing.

He entered the United States Army before being married and served overseas during World War II.

He worked in Alaska for 25 years and locally as a heavy equipment operator. While in Alaska, he helped in building roads and clearing paths for the Alaskan pipeline. He was a member of the 302 Operating Engineer Union in Alaska.

Cochran loved gardening and taking care of his chickens. He will be best remembered by his children and children for baking them oatmeal cookies on Sunday mornings and having them delivered to their homes before they woke up.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Art Cochran and Junior Cochran; two sisters, Beatrice Alspaw and Lorene Cochran; and one grandson, Frank DeSylva.

Cochran is survived by his wife Thelma of the home; three daughters, Frances DeSylva and husband Ralph N., Cushing; Gloris McEntire and husband Larry, Cushing; Colista Cathey and husband Herbert E., Cushing; one son, J.C. Leonard and wife Debbie, Drumright; one brother, George Cochran, Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren, Lori McEntire, Tulsa; Larry Keith McEntire, Tulsa; Chrystal DeSylva, Cushing; Rachael Baker, Cushing; Tonia DeSylva, Cushing; Mollie Cathey, Cushing; five great grandchildren, Derek, Desiree, Tyler, Morgan, Colista; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary E. Cochran
August 17, 1918 ~ February 3, 2006


Mary E. Cochran, Yale resident, passed away on Friday evening, February 3, 2006, in the Drumright Regional Hospital at the age of 87 years.

The daughter of the late Elbert Edgar Cochran and Melvina Dix Cochran, Mary was born in Kenton, OK and was raised in the Riverside and Norfolk area.

Mary enjoyed baking cookies, crocheting when she was younger, walking and she loved her dog, Sugar Baby.

She is survived by one brother, Melvin Cochran of Pomona, CA; numerous nephews & nieces, great nephews & nieces, great-great nieces, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Adams and Martha Childress.

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 6, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Joe Mendenhall and Sam Mendenhall officiating.

James Edwin Cochran
April 15, 1919 ~ October 6, 1999


CUSHING -- Services for James Edwin Cochran, 80, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Chris Thompson and Dr. Verlon Snell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.

Born April 14, 1919, at Cushing to Frank and Rebecca Whitaker Cochran, he died Oct. 6, 1999, at Oklahoma City.

He married Wilna Lois Battle Feb. 14, 1942, at Aberdeen, Md. She preceded him in death March 7, 1997.

A 1937 graduate of Cushing High School, Cochran graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1942.

He and his wife made their first home at Aberdeen and later lived at McPhearson, Kan., Cushing and Ardmore, before returning to Cushing in 1978. Cochran was a chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was active in the Boy Scouts and a member of Toast Masters.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. David Cochran, Jamison, Penn., and Sam Cochran, Edmond; one daughter, Rebecca Stewart, Oklahoma City, one brother Frank Cochran, Cushing; one sister, Louise Bowen, Florida; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Palmer Funeral Home.

Thelma M. [Crauthers] Cochran
January 25, 1921 ~ January 16, 2010


Thelma M. Cochran, a longtime Cushing area resident, passed away on January 16, 2009 in Cushing at the age of 88 years.

Per Thelma's wishes, services were entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and a private graveside service was held on Monday, January 18, 2010 in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

The daughter of the late N. Crauthers and Mollie [French] Crauthers, Thelma was born on January 25, 1921 in Pauls Valley, OK.

She had been united in marriage to Franklin Cochran and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2001.
