John D. Maher

A memorial service was held March 3 at Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, for John D. Maher.
Mr. Maher was born July 5, 1930 in Nelogany to John Council and Nadine Maher and died Feb 26 at his home in Bentonville, AR.
He graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician about the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47)
Mr. Maher was married to the former Paula C. Brown of Weleetka. He moved to Titusville, Fl. In 1959 and worked for Martin-Marietta on America’s space program. He was involved on the Thor Missile, Titan I, II. And III missile, and the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo projects He moved to Longmont, Co. in 1975 working for IBM, later transferring to Tucson, AZ. Mr. Mahar retired in 1991 and moved to Bentonville.
Survivors in clued his wife, Paula, of the home; a brother Frank Maher, New Orleans, LA.; sons John David Maher, Jane, MO.; Steven Patrick Maher, Bushwell FL., and Robert Franklin Maher, Firestone, CO.; and daughter, Dena Sue Mortensen, Salt Lake City, UT., two granddaughters, four grandsons, five step daughters, and one step grandson; and seven step great grandchildren
Interment was at Pawhuska Cemetery
