Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery

aka 89er Cemetery and Benge Cemetery

SW 1/4, Sec. 7, T13N, R4W, I.M.
Survey © by: John Lehr

Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery is located at 14300 N. County Line Rd. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From downtown Oklahoma City, take I-40 west to I-44 east {exit 147B} and exit right {north}. Go north on I-44 approximately 3.5 miles and continue left on State Highway 74 {do not exit on I-44 east} for another 1.25 miles and exit right to the NW Expressway and NW 63rd St. exit. At the traffic light, turn left {northwest} and go 6.1 miles. At 4.7 miles, you will see Resurrection Cemetery on the right {north} side of the road. Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will be 1.2 miles further, on the right {north} side of the road. Just past Chapel Hill is N. County Line Rd. Turn right {north} and go 2.8 to 3.0 miles. The cemetery will be on the right {east} side of the road.

The cemetery was first known as 89er Cemetery because it was started in 1889. Theodore and Nancy Benge sold 1.5 acres to the Spring Creek Cemetery Association of Oklahoma Territory of Oklahoma for $35.00 for cemetery purposes December 19, 1904. The deed was recorded on April 21, 1905 in Book 53, page 59. The far northwest corner of Spring Creek Cemetery is the original site of the 89er/Benge Cemetery where many early pioneers are buried dating from 1889. Visitors can easily recognize the older section by the upright old headstones that are visible. The new Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery contains flat headstones. There are several large statues and Biblical sculptures throughout the cemetery. The Corporation Commission record at Oklahoma's Public Office of Non-Development dated June 9, 1951 shows an expansion of 1.5 acres for Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery. Book 1490, p. 119-121. County clerk Plat book 38, p. 52 shows Section 2 of the cemetery was added December 1, 1963 when Trustees Myrtle Luschen and W. A. Buddy Eades had the property surveyed and platted into lots. A 1957 canvass of Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery listed 89 surnames. {Information obtained from OK County Cemetery Index - compiled by OK County HCE Genealogy Group, page 115.}

If you have family buried in this cemetery and would like to add their information, an obit, tombstone photo, funeral home record or memorial card to this website, please send area coordinator an e-mail.
