Joseph M. and Ida B. Christner donated land for a cemetery when their three-year-old son, Moses died December 7, 1890 after being accidentally scalded with hot water. The cemetery covers approximately 1.5 acres and with the exception of a few plots is used strictly for a family cemetery. According to early reports a tornado took the lives of a family living near the Christner home and Joseph provided burial spaces for the deceased in the Christner family cemetery. A letter written to one of the descendants mentions several unmarked children's graves. Descendants and their families have formed an association that maintains the cemetery. Only relatives are buried there now.

Joseph M. Christner's family originally came from Switzerland. Joseph was born in Summerset County, Pennsylvania March 10, 1849. He married Ida Belle Pritz {Pritts} September 3, 1882. He was one of Oklahoma's pioneer settlers and homesteaded a claim two miles east of Lockridge. Joseph M. died October 18, 1907 leaving his wife and thirteen children. Ida B. died in 1946.
