Violet E. Schneider passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 100 years of age. She was born in Harper County on March 31, 1913. She lived in the Woodward area for most of her life and most recently as a resident of Providence Place, Woodward. She was the wife of Oliver Schneider, married on November 12, 1933 at Tangier, Oklahoma. Violet’s Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel.
Violet is survived by three daughters, Regena Forrester, Parumph, Nevada, Linda Foster and husband Bruce of The Colony, Texas and Leta Hughes and husband Tom of Roswell, Georgia; grandchildren, Marty Anderson and wife Nidia, Kris Chafin, Stacy Montgomery, Erin Shults, Tim Hughes, Susan Hughes; six great-grandchildren, Cheri, Jimmy, Megan, Brayden, Jacob, and Katie; five nieces and four nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was the daughter of the late Birt and Balm (Eades) Waggoner. Violet attended and graduated from Tangier High School in 1931. She was a homemaker, loved sewing, baking, and assisted in farming while living in the Tangier community. After moving to Woodward in 1959 she began working for the Woodward County Election Board. Since 1941, she was a member of the Better Homes Club, whose members have been her friends through the years. She has also been a member of the Woodward First United Methodist Church, also making many friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oliver, in 1992; son-in-law, Jim Forrester in 2012; three sisters, Maude Waggoner, Edith Guinn, and Florence Winder and one brother, Glen Waggoner and two grandchildren, Robert Thomas Hughes and Sarah Jane Hughes.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mazie’s Mission, her granddaughter (Erin Shults, DVM) non profit organization, a no kill shelter and vet care for ill and abused animals or the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
