Memorial Services for Doris Gene Davis, 100, of Fairview, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Coldwater Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kansas. Reverend Virgil White will officiate. Arrangements are being made by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Doris Gene was born November 2, 1921 to William Orville and Helen Edith (Williams) Smith in Coldwater, Kansas and passed away November 20, 2021 at the Fairview Regional Medical Center.
Doris grew-up in Coldwater, Kansas where she attended school till the 8th grade. Doris worked at the Yorks which is where she met Joseph "Vern" Davis. He watched her over the fence as she picked strawberries. They were later married on May 1, 1941 in Greensburg, Kansas. After they were married, they moved to Wichita, Kansas and Vern worked at a machine operator in a woodworking business.
November 1942 Vern joined the United States Army and served in WWII until his discharge in 1945. After his Honorable Discharge from World War II, they moved to Wilmore, Kansas and worked at a grain elevator. A few years later, they moved to Coldwater, Kansas and Vern became an independent contractor for Standard Oil as a truck driver. Vern and Doris moved around as his job transferred them.
Vern and Doris were blessed with the arrival of two boys. Jim was born in 1947 and in 1955, Terry was born. In 1959 they moved to Pratt Kansas and then to Woodward in 1968. In 1971, they made their final move to Fairview where Vern worked for Delhi as a dispatcher until he retired in 1986. Vern and Doris enjoyed traveling for 20 years spending the winters in Arizona and summers in Colorado. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that loved life to its fullest, and most of all he loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her daughters-in-law, Ann Davis of Elizabeth, Colorado, and Sidonna Davis of Woodward, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Shannon Edmonds of Coppell, Texas, Dustin Davis and wife Wendy of Woodward, Oklahoma, Joshua Davis of Littleton, Colorado, and Jorden Davis and wife Amy of Woodward, Oklahoma, Texas; four great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Marilyn, her husband Vern Davis, both sons, James Merle Davis and Terry Kent Davis, and one brother, Edwin Smith and many other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made through the Fairview Funeral Home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Diabetes Division.
