HAFFNER, CHRISTINE (NIES) 1898-1986
College Place - Christine Haffner, 88, of 121 N.E. Birch St. died Tuesday at the Blue Mountain Convalescent Center. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Colonial-DeWitt Funeral Home. Elder Ed Gienger of the Walla-Walla City Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Private burial will be Monday in Mount Hope Cemetery, College Place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quiet Hour or the Walla-Walla College Student Fund through the funeral home. Mrs. Haffner was born January 4, 1898 in Tolstoy, South Dakota to Jacob and Fredrickea Dollinger Nies. She attended schools in Tolstoy and Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. On May 23, 1924 she married Carl A. Haffner in Tolstoy. They farmed there for 20 years before moving to College Place. They owned and operated the Haffner Apartments on Fourth Street in College Place. Her husband died June 6, 1977. Mrs. Haffner was also a homemaker and a member of the College Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She is survived by a son, Elder Clifford Haffner of Vancouver, Washington; a sister, Madeline Nies of Glendale, California; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. HAFFNER-Funeral services for the late Christine Haffner of 121 N.E. Birch, College Place will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 1986 at Colonial-DeWitt Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Gienger of the Walla-Walla City Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Private interment.
