Leota Powers, age 82 of Purcell, went to be with her Heavenly Father unexpectedly, March 2, 2013.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, with interment following at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

Leota was born in Norman, OK to Homer McCalip and Ollie (Ward) McCalip on June 24, 1930. Leota was married to Lloyd Smith in 1947. From this union, Donna June was born. On July 2, 1949, Leota and Ralph Jean Powers were united in a double wedding ceremony in Van Buren, AR, with her sister, Lovie, and James Drain. They had four children: Shirley Powers, Ruthie Powers, both from Purcell, Lavern Guthrie of Yukon, and son, Ralph Dale. Leota was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, daughter, Donna, and son, Dale. She was the most wonderful Christian mother. She was many things to us; like a father and a mother. She did many things in life to care for our family, sometimes working three jobs. She was employed at Jo’s Famous Pizza for years. Then she began Powers’ Upholstery, working for 35 years being forced to retire in 2001. She was the best in her field. She was envied for her seamstress work, her excellent cooking, grand parenting skills, loving and praying for everyone. She had a passion for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, God, her church, the Bible and her country. She was the light of our lives. It gave her tremendous joy to spend time with her family. She was a lady of grace and dignity and admired by many by the life she lived and the faith she had, and her bright blue eyes. We thank God for the extra 12 years he granted us with our mother. She was dearly loved by all that knew her.

She is survived by: Her three daughters, Two sisters, Lovie Drain and Pat Mize; Two brothers, James McCalip and wife Faye and Floyd McCalip and wife Jan; Three grandchildren: Connie Attaway, Heather Landry and Jason Guthrie; 5 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Kathy Andrews; Brother-in-law, Dwight Powers and wife Faye; Son-in-law, Jimmy Spalding and wife Audrey; Her aunt, Jean Blancett and a host of family, friends and her church family, all of who she loved deeply.

She will be greatly missed until that great day when we shall be reunited. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
