James Sedall “Lefty” Brooks, 88, passed away on July 16, 2022, in Chickasha

The son of Oscar Manley “OM” Brooks and Bonnie America (Bowling) Brooks, Sedall was born on January 7, 1934, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Sedall lived in Blanchard for all but approximately seven years of his life.

He served in the United States Army as a Sgt. from 1953-1956. He was a member of the 11th Infantry Division, serving during the Korean Conflict in Europe. He received the Sharpshooter Medal and German Occupation Ribbon.

Sedall married Julia Rosetta Pool on November 30, 1957, in Chickasha.

Sedall was very involved in the City of Blanchard. He was a member of the town council and was instrumental in Blanchard becoming a city. He again served on the city council approximately fifty years later.

Sedall was also very active in little league sports. He was a baseball and softball coach in Moore and in Blanchard he coached baseball, softball, football and basketball little league teams. He loved going to watch his own grandkids as well as other friend’s grandchildren play sports of any kind. Sedall was a huge OU fan. He held season tickets to the football games for several years, but also enjoyed watching OU basketball as well as baseball.

He was a member of Crossroad to Life Baptist Church, which he loved very much and served as an elder and deacon. Sedall will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Sedall was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Monte Jean Gray-Covington and Grace Nuckles; and two brothers, Oscar Brooks and George Brooks.

Sedall is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosetta Brooks; son, Stephen Keith Brooks and wife, Maria Cristina of Blanchard; two daughters, Bonita Renee Brooks of Blanchard and Lisa Irene Turner and husband Danny of Chickasha; six grandchildren, Michael Deason, Jr. and wife Breanna, Braxdan Sedall Turner and wife Kealey, Caitlin Smith and husband Carson, Manuela Puerto, Pablo Angulo, and Sara Angulo; nine great grandchildren, Madison, Abigail, Parker, Tucker, Paisley, Maddax, Saylor, Kennedy, and Bryson Sedall; one great-great grandchild, Hudson; one brother-in-law, Bill Pool; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, Blanchard, Oklahoma. Interment to follow at Blanchard Cemetery, Blanchard, Oklahoma.
