Graveside services for Orville Eugene Marlatt, 81, of Yukon, Oklahoma, formerly of Cheyenne Valley, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Lone Star Cemetery with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. at the Cheyenne Valley United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be from 9 am to 8 pm Friday, September 23, 2011 at the funeral home with no viewing at the cemetery or church.

Orville Eugene Marlatt was born May 16, 1930 to Orville Edward and Barbara Elva Crites Marlatt at his parents' home in Ringwood, Oklahoma. Gene, as he was known to many, attended Ringwood schools where he graduated with the class of 1948. He attended Northwestern University at Alva and later Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Gene worked as the parts manager for Stevens Buick in Enid, Oklahoma and later doing the same for Quincy Johnston Equipment in Woodward, Oklahoma. He married Edna Mae Marlatt on December 20, 1958 in Woodward, Oklahoma. In 1959 they purchased and moved to her grandparents' home in Cheyenne Valley. He continued farming and raising cattle. Gene also worked as a livestock inspector for the state of Oklahoma for three years. In 2006, after 48 years of farming, Gene and Edna moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, Oklahoma.

As a young man Gene accepted Christ as his Savior at the Ringwood Presbyterian Church. Later he and Edna Mae became members of the Cheyenne Valley United Methodist Church. After moving to Yukon he attended First United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and New Wine Church in southwest Oklahoma City. Gene was a 32nd degree Mason. Music was an important part of his life He sang in the Oklahoma State Glee Club and was a long time member of Enid Barbershopper. For a short time he sang with the OK Chorale in Oklahoma City. Gene led the singing at the Cheyenne Valley Church. He sang with his father and brother in New Life Quartet and also sang for 17 years with the Believers Quartet of Fairview. Gene was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Edna Mae of Yukon, Ok; his children: Laura Ann Alfonzo and husband Gus; Michael Len Marlatt, and Gena Lyn Barnhill and husband Wes, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren: Lauren, Adriann, Erin and Kirsten Alfonzo; Connor and Cori Barnhill all of Oklahoma City as well as Christopher and Cody Marlatt of Kasota, Minnesota; two brothers: Devert "John" Marlatt and Lesley Allen Marlatt both of Enid; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death are his son Richard Lee Marlatt, his brother Charles Marlatt and parents, Orville and Elva Marlatt.

Graveside services for Edna Mae Marlatt, 89, of Yukon, Oklahoma, formerly of Cheyenne Valley, will be 11:00am, Monday, January 21, 2019, at Lone Star Cemetery with a Memorial Service at 1:30pm at the Cheyenne Valley United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the funeral home with no viewing at the cemetery or church.

Edna Mae Marlatt was born April 22, 1929, to Ira Leon and Pearl Agnes Nairn Marlatt at her parents’ home in Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma. Edna Mae attended Cheyenne Valley schools where she graduated with the class of 1947. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and graduated with an elementary education degree.

In 1951 she moved to El Paso, Texas, and taught kindergarten to under-privileged Hispanic girls at Hauchen Community Center, as well as leading cooking, health, and reading clubs. In addition, she taught English to children and adults taking citizenship classes. After five years she returned to Woodward, Oklahoma where she worked as a second grade teacher for three years.

She married her husband, Orville Eugene “Gene” Marlatt on December 20, 1958, in Woodward, Oklahoma. In 1959 they purchased and moved to her grandparents’ home in Cheyenne Valley where they farmed and raised cattle. Edna Mae taught first grade for one year in Fairview, Oklahoma, before she and Gene started their family.

Edna Mae and Gene were active members of Cheyenne Valley United Methodist Church for 48 years. She loved teaching and children, and was involved in leading Vacation Bible School every summer, as well as teaching Sunday School and Bible studies to both children and adults through the years. She was a dedicated member of the church’s United Methodist Women, and served as UMW District President.

In 2006, after 48 years of farming, Gene and Edna Mae moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, Oklahoma. After settling there they attended First United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and New Wine Church in Midwest City.

She is survived by her children: Laura Ann Alfonzo and Michael Len Marlatt, of Oklahoma City; and Gena Lyn Barnhill and husband Wes, of Yukon; eight grandchildren: Lauren Kliewer and Erin Dang of Edmond; Adriann Goodridge and Kirsten Alfonzo of Oklahoma City; Connor and Cori Barnhill of Yukon; Christopher Marlatt stationed in Rota, Spain; and Cody Marlatt of St. Peter, Minnesota; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Gene; her son Richard Lee Marlatt; and her parents, Ira and Pearl Marlatt.
