November 2, 1958 - January 19, 2021

Funeral services for Paul David Worley, 62, of Fairview, will be 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Fairview First Baptist Church with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

On November 2, 1958, Paul David Worley made his arrival into this world. The Lord knew what he was doing by orchestrating his arrival on a Sunday in Mooreland, OK.

Paul began his education at Progressive and Isabella schools. By junior high he was attending Fairview Public Schools where he graduated with the Class of 1977.

His first jobs were hauling hay and working at Ideal Grocery. The family had a dairy farm also and milking the cows was the responsibility of all three boys. As a young boy he had to get up at 5 a.m. to milk the cows and he developed a strong lifelong distaste for early mornings. Most people knew not to call his house on Saturday mornings before 10:00 a.m.!

He went to Dallas, TX, to go to Diesel Mechanics School but he came home every weekend because there was a certain young lady, Sharla Stevens, that had caught his eye and soon captured his heart for nearly the next 43 years. In his early adult years, he worked for Ewbank Water Well, American Surface Hole, Fairview Casing, Suits Drilling and Rod Keck Construction. In about 1986, he went to work for John and Ethelmae Schoeppel as their Ranch Manager. John and Paul had great mutual respect for each other and they shared their love of the ranching life. They would meet every Wednesday morning and go over what needed to be done at the ranch. John and Ethelmae were known for taking their afternoon rides out to where Paul was working and Ethelmae always brought him a snack. John and Ethelmae were kind, gracious and caring and Paul always appreciated that. In 1996 John passed away and a bit after that Paul went into partnership with Cindy Schoeppel. They ran cattle and white long haired sheep on the ranch. When that came to a close, he started his own fencing business, Fence Plus. Paul took great pride in his work and was known to be the best fence builder in the county. His work ethic soon got around and people from surrounding counties would call to get on his list. Most of them didn’t care if it took him a year to get to it…just as long as Paul was the one to do it. You will still see his fences standing strong from 20 years ago, and if you knew how he built fences, you will recognize his work when you are driving down the country roads.

Paul had a love for fast cars. He owned a 1973 Dodge Challenger, 1968 Dodge Super Bee, 1977 Grand Prix, 1979 Monte Carlo and a 1955 mother of pearl white Chevy pickup.

Paul also had the notion that he wasn’t ‘odd’ so he never liked odd numbers. He wouldn’t ever choose an odd-numbered golf cart to play a round of golf. Paul and Sharla enjoyed several years of joining longtime friends David and Dawn Ann Mendenhall on golfing trips to New Mexico, Branson, Missouri and Myrtle Beach, SC.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and music. He truly relished taking the grandkids on hiking trips out through the pastures and down trails looking for treasures along the way. Many times they would all load up in the back of the ‘Beater’ pickup and go check the cows and then stop somewhere and start the hike. He would let the grandkids, from an early age, sit in his lap and drive across the pastures and through the gates to check the next round of cattle.

In 2019 he retired from the Fairview Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter after 25 years. He also retired from Major County EMS as an Advanced Medical Technician after 20 years. He developed many friends and cared for many along those paths. As a family we have heard from people he cared for while in the back of an ambulance about how much they appreciated him. Lifelong friendships were developed over those many years.

On February 16, 1985, he married that young lady that had caught his eye a few years before. He and Sharla were married at the Assembly of God Church in Fairview, Oklahoma. He enjoyed watching and, at times coaching, his girls, Kelsey, Kinsey and Kassey, when they participated in Softball, Basketball, Gymnastics and Rodeo events. Fishing, Hunting and going out to the ranch and to Canton Lake and sitting down to the table for supper together were also very much treasured times. As a family they started attending church at Orion Baptist Church then Saron Mennonite Church. In 1995, Paul felt the call of the Lord and was saved at Orion Baptist Church. He was baptized March 24, 1996, along with his wife, by Reverend Arnold Curby. On March 19, 2000, Paul and Sharla joined the First Baptist Church in Fairview, Okla. Paul sang on the worship team until he had to step down due to his failing health. He served on the Finance Committee, went to Falls Creek with the Youth and to Mexico on a mission trip. Hewas also known for slipping in and working around the church grounds when he saw a need.

He is survived by his wife, Sharla; daughters Kelsey Nelson and husband Keith, Kinsey Young and husband Tyler and Kassey Worley; 10 Grandchildren: Keith Richard Jr, Riley James, Aubree Shae, Jaycee Kae, Elijah Tye, Isaiah Paul, Karter Ray, Kaezlee June, Rynli Jewel and Delanee Dian; his Mother, (Chloe) Dian Nichols; 2 brothers, Rick Worley and wife Robin, Greg Worley and wife Lisa, as well as a host of cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Worley, step-fathers Joel Chambers and C.A. Nichols; his grandparents, Harold and Cora Worley and Ivan and Mildred Painton.

Memorials can be given in his name to the Fairview First Baptist Church with the funeral home acting as custodian.
