Florence Vera Penner was born January 29, 1917 in Burns, Kansas to Jacob and Molly (Lorenz) Kiefer and passed away March 24, 2008 at the Fairview Regional Medical Center, Fairview, Oklahoma.

As a child, Florence moved all over with her parents. Within a nine-year period, she attended nine schools. In 1936, they finally settled down in Ames, Oklahoma. She married Edward “Edd” A. Penner on May 28, 1939 at her parent’s home in Ames. They enjoyed more than 66 years of wedded bliss. Three children were born to this union, one son, Harold and two daughters, Betty and Shirley. Florence was a proud homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her husband and children. She loved working in the yard, often getting up at 6:00 a.m. to perform her yard-work before going inside to make breakfast. Florence made the best lemon meringue pies and on the children’s birthdays would make her special fudge. She had many little sayings, such as “running like a striped ape”, “I gotta make tracks” and “thicker than the hair on a cat’s back”. Everything had to be “straight with the world”. Therefore, naturally, all of the tablecloths, furniture and rugs had to be straight. Florence loved to sing. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She shared a love of flying with her husband and belonged to the Oklahoma Flying Farmers. Florence was baptized in the Methodist Church and attended the Fairview Church of God. She had a true love of God and talked with Him daily.

She is survived by son Harold and wife Gay, of Fairview; daughter Betty Cottom and husband Marvin, of Oklahoma City, daughter Shirley Hardin and husband Ben, of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Cindy Borden and husband Jon of Oklahoma City, Sonda Penner of Fairview, Darren Cottom and wife Polly of Mutual, Scott Penner and wife Lori of Fairview, Steve Cottom and wife Heather of Oklahoma City and Brad Wares and wife Erin of Austin, Texas; ten great-grandchildren, Kyle and Mackenzie Borden, Jandolyn Overton and husband Blake, Cody and Julia Cottom, Savannah and Summer Cottom, Danielle and Robert Wares, and Kacie Penner; one great-great grandchild, Kaden Overton and four step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edd; brother Gilbert Kiefer and sister Marie Kiefer.

Memorials may be made to the Church of God Cemetery or charity of choice with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc., acting as custodian.
