Carroll E. Ritchie, Jr., 87, of Bartlesville, died at home Wednesday, April 27, after an 18 month battle with esophageal cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. May 7th at First Church (Methodist), with Rev. Paul Overholt officiating. Cremation was directed by Stumpff Funeral Home.

Carroll was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 1, 1928, the son of Carroll and Elizabeth (Schoen) Ritchie. He grew up and received his education in Los Angeles and served in the Army Air Corp during the "cooling-off" period of WWII in 1946-1949. Furthering his education at the University of Southern California, his long career was with the Los Angeles Water Power Co., both in Los Angeles and Bishop, CA where he was property manager. He retired in 1997 and at that time moved to Bartlesville, OK.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Joyce Gray-Ritchie, two brothers, John (Ann) Ritchie, Monrovia, CA and Ted of Los Angeles, CA., sons Edmund C. Ritchie (Eadie) of Buffalo, NY and Russell P. Ritchie of Los Angeles, and three step-sons; Peter G. (Joanna) Gray, Dr. David R. (Rebecca) Gray, and Dr. Eric R. (Ginny) Gray and one step-daughter, Nancy J. (Bruce) Perkinson. He loved his seven grandchildren: Mariel, Beck, Megan, Molly and Hank, and Syndey and Abby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 42 years, Rose Giglio.

Carroll loved living in Bartlesville those 18 years where he rode his motorcycle over the hills and vast open landscape he admired. He was a van driver for 1st Methodist Church, served on board of RSU-TV, volunteer at biplane fly-ins, Special Olympics, active member at Downtown Lion's Club, Astronomy Club, and gave 8,000 hours to the Jane Phillips Hospital as an escort and pharmacy volunteer.

Anyone wishing to leave a memorial in his name may choose between his favorite OETA, c/o Dan Scheidel, General Manager, OKC or the Downtown Lions Club in Bartlesville.
