Anna Martha "Ann" (Cates) McCleskey (1923 - 2016)

Mrs. Anna "Ann" Martha (Cates) McCleskey passed away Monday, August 29, 2016. Ann was born in Rural Floyd County, Texas February 6, 1923. She was the daughter of John Clifford Cates and Clara Alice (McCullar) Cates. She completed grade school at Sand Hill public school where she was active in theatre production and played softball. She transferred to Floydada, Texas High School and graduated in 1940. Following graduation, she worked in a ladies dress shop in Floydada. She and Greer McCleskey were married in Amarillo, Texas November 6, 1943. They made their home in Lubbock, Texas where Ann worked in an Optometrist office until moving to Borger, Texas. She worked in a B.F. Goodrich Company store about three years as a bookkeeper before her first child was born in Phillips, Texas. Ann moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1950. She was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served a term as President of Christian Women's Fellowship. In addition to her Church and home care duties, Ann operated a newcomers welcoming service for several years "Hospitality Hostess". Later she was an agent for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Ann was an ardent golfer and was active in Hillcrest Women's Golf Association - she served in various capacities including president. She had been a member of Tulsa District Golf Association and Tri-State Golf Association. She had been a member of the Senior Golf Association of America and played in several Senior Golf Tournaments around the United States. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Greer McCleskey, her parents and six brothers, Lloyd Cates, Clark Cates, J.D. Cates, Woodrow Cates, Johnnie Cates and Kenneth Cates. She is survived by her son, Sidney Greer McCleskey and wife, Kathleen Louise (Kasey) of Flower Mound, Texas; one daughter, Suzanne McCleskey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, one sister-in-law, Bonnie Roe George of Lubbock, Texas. She was blessed with two grandchildren: Matthew Greer McCleskey and wife Lori of Rogers, Arkansas; Lindsay Ann Wofford and husband, Billy Alan Wofford of Dallas, Texas, several great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Anna "Ann" Martha (Cates) McCleskey donated her body to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center "WILLED BODY PROGRAM". Private family memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: First Christian Church, 520 S. Osage Avenue, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
