Mary Elizabeth (Gilman) Carpenter, a long-time resident of Prague, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Midwest City, Oklahoma, at the age of 79. She was born on Thursday, August 20, 1942 in Avery, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Claude Ervin and Mildred Geraldine (Anderson) Gilman. Mary was raised in Stroud, Oklahoma, she attended Stroud Public Schools and was a 1960 graduate of Stroud High School. She married Jimmie W. Carpenter on July 31, 1960 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and the couple made Prague their home. She was a long-time resident of Prague and attended a couple of deployments with Jimmie’s military services.

Mary was very active in the Prague community. She served as the President and the District 4 Secretary for the American Legion Auxiliary and was very active in the First Baptist Church of Prague. She was a loyal and dedicated member of the church and worked for many years for Prague Schools, making bread for the children's lunches.

Mary was known for being a happy and giving person. She had a smile that would light up a room, a loving spirit with an infectious laugh and a giving heart that made a lasting impression.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Clinton Carpenter; one son-in-law, Don Crider; two brothers, Noel Anderson and Robert Gilman; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmie C and Cleo Carpenter; brother-in-law, Glen Carpenter and brother and sister-in-law, Lee Roy and Lucy Carpenter, sister-in-law and her husband, Harvey and Betty Bates, two nieces Sheila Macy and Peaduta Rutledge and two nephews Little Clyde Gilman and Dillon Rutledge.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Jimmie W. Carpenter of the home; one brother Clyde Gilman and his wife Ann of Purcell, one sister, Pat Phillips of Noble, one sister-in-law, Marcella Carpenter of Prague, two daughters, Connie Carpenter of Prague and Debbie Crider of Prague; one son, Jimmie L Carpenter and his wife Brenda of Maud; daughter-in-law, Barbara Carpenter-Francis; seven grandchildren, Dawn Crenshaw of Harrah, Westy Carpenter and his wife Devin of Maud, Megan Carpenter and her wife Kayla of Yukon, Tru Etcheson and her husband Sam of Konawa, Crissy Carpenter and Travis Curl of Moore, Jayla Fleming and her husband Sean of Asher and Colby Carpenter of Maud; eight great-grandchildren, Darra, Daysha, Mikenzie, Paisley, Wyatt, Denton, Blakely, Quinnly, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
