Bert Elliott Dawson

November 27, 1938 ~ March 12, 2023

Bert Elliott Dawson, of Choctaw, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the age of 84. Bert was born on November 27, 1938 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of eight children. He was raised by his mother, Myrtle Hattie (Freeze) Dawson and his grandparents.

Bert grew up in Paden and was a 1956 graduate of Paden High School. After high school, Bert proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served in Germany and drove a tank. He proudly served for five years.

Bert was a cowboy at heart. He was tough as a boot, a bit stubborn and was always true to his word. Bert loved to be on the back of a horse and was probably on horseback before he could walk. He also loved to dance, especially two-stepping and western swing dancing. He was just as skilled on the dance floor as he was on the back of a horse. Bert worked for many years as a working cowboy for the Oklahoma City Stock Yards, retiring after more than 20 years.

Bert enjoyed hunting, fishing and his near daily trip for McDonald's Coffee. There wasn't a post or mailbox in his area that he didn't hit with his truck at least once and of course, "they were always too close to the road."

Bert was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Hattie Dawson, stepson, Frankie John Pavelko, and seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Brian Dawson, daughter-in-law, Tammy Dawson, three grandchildren, Hunter Dawson, Gracie Dawson and Ryder Dawson, stepdaughter, Debbie Kearns, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
