Myrtle Bell Beavers, Ph.D., 86, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020 , in Poteau, Oklahoma.  Dr. Beavers was born April 21, 1934 in Hix, to Robert Lee Morton of Proctor and Hattie Belle (Carpenter) Morton of Sallisaw.  She Married Carl Edward Beavers of Howe, on Jan. 6, 1953

 

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, and by six sisters:  Stella, Lorado, Hettie, Guffie, Nellie, and Earlene; by three brothers, Robert Lee, Jr., Joel Jack, and Dewayne.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Taylor and husband All of Madison, Alabama and Cary Jo Knight of Destin, Florida; and son Chris and wife Paige of Lithia Springs, Georgia; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, Many nephews and nieces, including Karen A George and husband Barry of Stilwell.

 

Myrtle graduated Heavener High School in 1952, and by 1994 had completed a doctorate from Florida State University in English Literature.  She wrote many articles, a short story, several critical essays, more than 100 poems and two books.

 

Burial was in Heavener Memorial Park, December 3, 2020, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
