Marvin “JR” Lane, 89, lifetime resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 31st, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a long battle with heart disease.

We will gather with friends and family to honor and celebrate his life on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church Chapel, 218 South 6th Street, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Pastor Russell Aday, a long time friend will officiate. JR will be laid to rest privately at Longwood Cemetery, east of Ponca City.

JR was born on January 31st, 1928 to Marvin Ancel Lane and Olga Oreata "Missy" Reed Lane in Ponca City and worked for Continental Oil Company in Ponca City from 1947 to 1981. He married Frances (“Frankie”) Louise Moree on April 14, 1946, his wife and partner of 71 years. They met when they were 14 years old and shared over 75 years together.

JR served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist church and Masonic Lodge. JR and Frankie’s passion was bass and crappie fishing. They spent warm weather months RVing and fishing in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma with friends and family. Those close to JR and Frankie share special memories of fish fries, card playing, travel and countless hours in the bass boat. JR and Frankie spent much of their time recently in Colorado with their daughters, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Frankie, two daughters - Linda Lane Cross of Aurora, Colorado, and her two children Mark Aaron Cross (Marcy) of Ponca City and Beverly Ann Cross of Aurora, Colorado; Nancy Lane Branch (Mert) of Parker, Colorado and her two children Lane Michael Branch (Keila) of Strongsville, Ohio, and Anne Moree Branch Chambers (Michael) of Atlanta, Georgia.

Great grandchildren include Kelby Gene Cross, Wade David Hand, Brea Lee Hand, Kory Sebastian Cross, Alexa Lane Branch, Zack Lee Branch, Lillian Marie Chambers, Amelia Ann Chambers, Reese Evelyn Wiechman, MacKenzie Sweet, and Trevor Sweet.

Extended family member survivors include niece Sandy Hogan Boepple (John), nephew Joe Lane of Claremore, brother-in-law Tommy Ray Dobbs, nephew Danny Dobbs (Erica) of Oklahoma City, and cousins Margie Stracener Beguin (Jim), Frankie Ray (Dana) and families of Ponca City, Oklahoma and many other cousins.

Preceding JR in death were his parents, Marvin and Missy Lane, his siblings Gerry Hogan, Alfred Lane, Leroy Lane (and spouses). Also, Frank Moree and Verna Dobbs, Frances’ parents.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mert Wiechman, Mark Cross, Michael Branch, Michael Chambers, Danny Dobbs, Dave Cousminer, Ken Spears and Scott Ingram.
