Benson Alexander left us too soon, at the young age of 75 on October 26th, just after midnight, which was about breakfast time for him, being the night owl he was…  I guess you can say, God won the Lotto on this one, because I was sure we had WON the lotto here on earth, for most of you, it was Preaching, Singing and Teaching and ability to touch the lives of others, but as children it was the Charisma, Love, Leadership, Never Say Quit, The Glass is Over-Full Attitude that he carried with him always and showed us all the way to the moment he was gone…  In fact, I’m pretty sure he had plans to get out of that bed and hold and probably even dance again but, for sure go to some more Singings and Revivals, which he traveled to 3, 4 or 5 times a week, not getting home till the wee wee hours in the mornings.. I’m also pretty sure the deer population will grow again, since he had a knack for finding them on lots of those early morning travels… but, that never stopped him… nothing did…

Growing up we would laugh as we listened to him in the morning singing…. Ohh Lord It’s Hard To Be Humble…. When Your….  (Google It)

He played basketball in high school, he could even dunk and at only 5’ 6” that’s pretty good…  (maybe he chose the wrong career) and then he graduated High School as the Valedictorian…  and was determined to have more than he grew up with.. so he set off for the Big D.. “Dallas” Soon after he was out of high school.. with Jackie Mcleod (Jackie Standifer) his soon to be wife and at first took a whatever jobs he could, drove a taxi.. built trophies.. but, then he was always able to recognize opportunity and seized it when he had the chance to take computer classes and from there landed a job working for Ross Perot at EDS (Electronic Data Systems). He stayed there until he retired, becoming an Main Frame Engineer  and he retired early.. at 53 years of age But throughout the years, his passion was always Singing, Entertaining and Playing Music, He could play any instrument 100% completely by ear..  (It must have been a Generation Skipping Talent, because not one of us kids has it) his earliest group was “The Gospel Faith Trio” he with his wife at the time, Jackie and Louise Lomax… After that, he and two other formed.. “The Tribesmen” which was he, Charlie Ontibe and Jim Bruner, that group continued for over 3 decades...and even after that group, his passion was still lit to spread the gospel singing, preaching, and teaching….and so, he formed his last group, “Scrap Iron” that continued right up until he couldn't any more...He spent the last 24 years of his life living it on his terms….and I’m thankful for the abundance of friends he had, as that, is the true measure of success and wealth….the ability to touch and help those around you….

I would be remiss if I didn’t include Becky Supulpa in his story as she was his last love and friend and although my Dad wasn’t a person of many regrets, believing you should live life to the fullest, I do know, he believed he should have asked for her hand in marriage.   I don’t think he was ever quite the same after she left suddenly before… he asked…  in fact.. I’m pretty sure he is glad to Be reunited with her.. as she was still on his bucket List.  So, there are a few us left behind, and those are Me (David Alexander) his eldest son, Marilyn Coltz, Philana Rose, Leyahana and Keith TwoHatchett, lots of Grandkids, Saxon, Christian, Candace, Raul, Shelby, Michael and a very very close extended Family.. of the Standifer Clan… Yes all of them…  (He was also preceded by Nellie Alexander and Sabrina Standifer.

I’ll miss him and will think of him with every card game, dominoe game and chili on the Friday after every Thanksgiving (he could make a mean pot of chili that would burn your mouth off)  And his Birthday was 10/31/42. So celebrate Halloween for him… and smile joyously knowing he is free of that body that was holding him back… From the Life Ever After…
