Services for David Lee Wilson, 70, of Stigler will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20 in the Whitefield Baptist Church, Stigler with Dr. Audie Swinney officiating.

Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery, Stigler.

Born September 3, 1949 at Roff, the son of Hubert and Christine Jones Wilson, he died Sunday, June 14, 2020 in Stigler. David grew up the youngest of five boys in Marietta. After graduating high school in 1967, he continued his educational path at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor of arts. In 1973, his passion for the legal system began, and he became a correctional officer for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Given a new opportunity in 1975, he moved his family to Wichita, Kansas and became a warden at the Wichita Corrections Center. It was during this time that he began furthering his education more and graduated from Wichita State University in 1978 with a mast of administration in justice. In 1979, he moved his family to Ada, where he became Assistant Professor of Corrections at East Central University. In 1982, David was accepted into the University of Oklahoma School of Law and graduated in 1985 with a Juris Doctorate. Within one week of taking the Bar exam, he loaded up his family and moved to Stigler, a place held near to his heart from childhood, where his parents came back home after their retirement, and family was abundant. He began his law practice in 1985 in a little office on South Broadway. Some of his career highlights include representing Federal Bureau of Prison employees throughout the country, serving as the General Counsel to the American Federation of Government Employees/Counsel of Prison Locals, acting as legal counsel to the Union negotiating team on the labor agreement (Master Agreement) which is still in effect today, successfully argued on appeal to the EEOC the Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Act applied to the Bureau of Prisons and Vietnam Veterans were entitled to the preferential treatment to hiring, being an approved C.L.E.E.T. instructor for the State of Oklahoma, as well as being the Municipal Judge for both the City of Stigler and the Town of Quinton.

He was preceded him in death by his parents; daughter, Amanda Marie Wilson; granddaughter, Haley Marie Dunham; and three brothers, Wayne Wilson, Sharon Wilson and Mark Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Kay, of the home; children, Holly Dunham and husband Patrick of Whitefield, Matthew Wilson of Stigler, David Wilson of Muldrow, and Jacob Wilson and wife Megan of Enterprise; grandchildren, Micah, Mason and Bailee Dunham and Kirsten Wilson, Devin Wilson and Maisie Wilson; great-grandchild, Kasen Dunham; and his brother, Harvey Joe Wilson and wife Lora of McAlester.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Bumpers, Mike Butler, Brian McLaughlin, Brian Henderson, Kirk Edwards and Ron Norton. Honorary bearers will be Charles Roye, Micah Dunham, Mason Dunham, Bailee Dunham, Kirsten Wilson, Devin Wilson and Maisie Wilson.

David was one of my neighbors and we remained friends through college and a few months before he died, we had lunch together. He is missed.
