Genevera (Headlee) Powell

Genevera (Headlee) Powell
June 6, 1941 ~ February 11, 2024

Genevera Headlee Powell (82) was born June 6, 1941 to the late Calvin and Virginia Headlee. She passed peacefully on February 11, 2024. Genevera grew up on a farm outside of Freedom, Oklahoma as the oldest of six children. She graduated from Freedom High School in 1959. She married Davy Hepner and they were blessed with three children: Monte, Tim, and Jennifer. Genevera lived the majority of her life in Guymon, Oklahoma, where she worked as the manager of the S&H Green Stamps Store for 18 years. On July 3, 1975, Genevera married Vernon Powell and gained another special daughter, Susan. Genevera and Vernon loved to travel and made many trips during their 31 years of marriage.

Genevera loved the Lord and devoted her life to sharing her faith. She felt that she was called to put her faith in action and to not just sit on the sidelines. Through the years she was active in her church, Victory Memorial United Methodist of Guymon, where she served on various committees. She was the delegate to the Oklahoma United Methodist Annual Conference for seven years and served on the Conference's Board of Ordained Ministry for four years. Genevera devoted many hours to the United Methodist Women serving at the local, district and state levels. She enjoyed participating many years in Toole Tyme at Cookson Hills Indian Mission near Tahlequah. She also volunteered in the Mission Program all the way through her 70s. Genevera's other Mission Trips included Dulac, Louisiana; Juarez, Mexico; Simia, Colorado; Kenton, Oklahoma and Guatemala. Genevera also served on the Guymon Parks Board, President of the Delphinium Garden Club, and held various local and county offices for Oklahoma Home and Community Education. Genevera loved to enter her homegrown wares in the county fair and always came home with blue ribbons. Her devotion to her faith continued after she moved to Norman by serving the United Methodist Women as co-mission chair for the McFarlin United Methodist Church.

In addition to her faith, family was extremely important to Genevera. There was always a generous amount of food prepared and favorite snacks. She will be remembered by her family for her game playing ability / rule modification, her feisty political conversations, and sharing her love for the Lord. She will be dearly missed.
