Gary L. Harper, 64, of Florence, KS, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2006, after a long illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Florence United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Zeiner Funeral Home, Florence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2006 in the Rock Cemetery in Granite, Oklahoma and a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Rose Chapel in Sayre, Oklahoma.

Born June 15, 1942 at Granite, Oklahoma, Gary was the son of Lloyd and Hester (Hughes) Harper. He was raised and educated in Sayre, OK, graduating from high school in 1960. He attended Southwestern Community College in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

On June 11, 1962, Gary married Sandra Maxwell at Hext, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Granite. They moved to Oklahoma City and lived there for thirteen years before moving to Florence in 1979.

Gary worked for Quality Oil Company as an area manager, overseeing 140 gas stations in six states. He then went to work for Irv Schroeder Country Motors in Hillsboro, Kansas until 2005, where he was one of the top salesmen for eleven years.

Gary loved his family. He was an avid trap shooter, winning numerous awards in several different states. He enjoyed going to casinos, taking trips to the dog track, hunting, fishing, and most of all, he loved to watch the OU Sooners play.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sandy of the home; two sons, Bryan of Florence and Jeff of Marion; brother, John Harper of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Junior Richardson, Doug Richardson, and Noah Harper. Memorial funds have been established with the American Cancer Society and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
