Springdale Cemetery


September 3, 1873 - September 18, 1938

WAKITA - Sept. 23 -- Funeral services were conducted at the Springdale church for Fred Pontius, 65, whose death occurred Sunday.

The last rites were conducted by the Rev. A. K. Fleming , pastor of the Wakita Methodist Church. Burial was made under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home in the Springdale cemetery.

Pontius was born September 3, 1873 at Berrien Springs, Mich. He came to Oklahoma in 1898. In 1912, the family moved to Bethany, Mo., where they resided until moving to a farm northeast of Wakita in 1928.

He is survived by his wife and seven sons and daughters as follows: Mrs. Leroy Brown of Gilman City, Mo,; Mrs. Cameron Smith of Wakita; Emory Pontius of Caldwell ; Mrs. Frank Schmitz of Braman, Okla.; Mrs. Harry Mohler, Elmer Lake and Wilma of Wakita. Survivors also include three brothers, Oscar Pontius of Bethany, Mo., Charles Pontius of California and Emory J. Pontius of Wakita.
