Betty Jo [Burnes] James

Elk City: Betty Jo James, 84, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Elk City.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs.

Visitation will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City and Wednesday and Thursday at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs.

Betty was born the youngest of four children to John and Audie [Chambers] Burnes in Cox City, Oklahoma on Thursday, September 27, 1928.

Betty had several jobs during her life, waitress, sales clerk, and store manager to name a few, but her most important was that of wife, homemaker and mother. On August 17, 1948 she married Thomas Clyde "Sam" James. He preceded her in death in April of 2001. The couple lived their lives in several small Oklahoma towns, finally making their home in Mangum.

Betty fought various forms of cancer since 1993, yet she managed to live and spend her life in her home with very few exceptions and remained independent of any outside assistance.

While it is true Mom will be sorely missed by those of us she leaves behind, join us today in celebrating her life and her being reunited in Heaven with her family and our Lord Jesus Christ.

To my dear family -
"Where you are I have been;
Where I am you will be;
Prepare yourselves to follow me"

Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bernice and Glenn Burnes, and her sister Tommie Jordan.

Casket Bearers will be: Mike James, Thomas James, Johnny Clyde Jordan, PJ James, Chris James, and Brandon Ray James. br>
