Rev Columbus Washington "C. W." Taylor

SERVICES HELD FEB. 4 FOR REV. C. W. TAYLOR

Funeral services for Rev. C. W. Taylor were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 4, at the First Baptist Church, Verden. Rev. Harold Watson of Peacock, Texas and formerly of Verden, officiated, assisted by Rev. Elza Perlman of Blanchard. Interment was in Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Donald Brown, Mrs. J. N. Kern, Mrs. C. W. Hamill and Mrs. Harry Dodson sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Living For Jesus." Jack McLane, Jr. sang "In the Garden." Mrs. Ed Nelson was pianist.

Casket Bearers were grandsons, C. W. Taylor, Charles Taylor, Ronald Taylor, Larry Taylor and Jimmy Van Deamon, all of Anadarko and a great-nephew, Richard Brown, Jr., of Verden.

Columbus Washington Taylor was born December 25, 1870 in Madison Couny, Arkansas and passed away at his home in Verden at 8:20 p.m. Friday, February 1, 1957, at the age of 86 years, one month, and six days.

He moved with his family from Arkansas to Missouri in 1882, to eastern Oaklahoma in 1898 and to the Verden community in 1907.

He was married to Miss Juliann Sturgell in Berry County, Missouri on March 7, 1895 and to this union was born three children, a daughter, Pearl, preceded him in death on December 2, 1923.

Brother Taylor, as he was known by all, was ordained a Baptist minister on January 12, 1903 at Cato, Missouri. He had been licensed to preach at an early age and had pastored several rural churches in southwest Missouri prior to his ordination.

He assisted in building several churches in Caddo and Grady counties and was one of the oldest ministers in the Caddo Baptist Association. Although he had been in ill health and not as active in recent years, he always answered when called upon. His was the life of a pioneer preacher, working for his Master and making a living for his family by farming or clerking in grocery stores on the side.

Brother Taylor was a member of the Verden Masonic Lodge where he held the office of chaplain for 20 years. He was city clerk of Verden for the past 24 years, and a member of the Town Board for several years, serving as mayor part of this time, prior to serving as clerk.

Survivors include his wife of the home, two sons, Emery O. and Roy, both of Anadarko, eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Newby of San Diego, Calif. and Mrs. Zona Rogers of El Dorado, Kansas.

Juliann [Sturgell] Taylor

Funeral services for Mrs. C. W. [Juliann] Taylor were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Hampton, pastor, officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Harry Dodson, Mrs. Paul Hampton, Mrs. Aubrey Finley and Mrs. Dale Henricks, with Mrs. Donald Brown at the piano.

Casket bearers were Jim VanDenam, Charles L. Taylor, Charles C. Taylor, Grover C. Taylor, John T. Taylor and Larry Taylor.

Interment was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the Hansen Funeral Home.

Mrs. Taylor was born January 5, 1879 in Carthage, Mo., and died Tuesday, March 5, 1968 in Shanoan Springs Rest Home, Chickasha. She was married March 1, 1895 in Missouri to the late Rev. C. W. Taylor. They moved to Verden in 1906 where they lived until his death in 1957. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Emory and Roy L. Taylor; both of Anadarko, eight grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and two brothers, O. E. Sturgell of Anadarko and A. H. Sturgell of Blanchard.

Everett L. Taylor

Services for Everett L. Taylor, 86, of Verden, Okla. were held Saturday, Jan. 11, 1986 in the First United Methodist Church in Verden. Rev. Anna Hickman officated and Rev. Ben Williams, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, assisting.

Mr. Taylor was born on August 9, 1899 in Arkansas and died Jan. 9, 1986 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

He married Mabel Graham on July 17, 1972 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Mr. Taylor came to Oklahoma in 1901 when his family homesteaded north of Verden. Mr. Taylor retired from farming in 1975 and was a lifetime resident of the Verden area. He had worked at Tinker Air Force Base. Mr. Taylor was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Verden.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Rufus Taylor and Drucilla Taylor; three brothers, Afton Taylor, Tom Taylor and Carl Taylor; and three sisters, Jewel Kees, Myrtle Boles and Velma Young.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Taylor of the home; one son, Mancil Taylor of Manteca, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara of Washington and Lois Peak of Okla. City; four sisters, Opal Brown and Lida McVey, both of Verden, Pearl Hay of Kansas City, Kansas and Vida Hair of Okla. City; eight stepchildren; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Interment was held in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the Hansen-Binyon Funeral Home.

Mabel A. Graham Taylor

Funeral service for Mabel A. Graham Taylor, age 103, of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, in the Verden United Methodist Church, Rev. Gerald Powley will officiate, and Lorene Brooks will assist.

Mabel Graham Taylor was born on February 12, 1899, near Wymore, Nebraska. In 1901, she came with her parents, John Thomas Janssen and Minnie Frances Fisher Janssen, in a covered wagon to the Pocasset area. She died on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Chickasha.

Mabel received her education at the Liberty Grade School and the Pocasset High School. Her transportation was by horse and buggy.

On October 1, 1919, Mabel married George Graham of Verden. They farmed near Pocasset then moved north of Verden where they raised seven of their eight children.

Their oldest son, Floyd, died in February of 1929. When the Grahams retired, they moved into Verden. George died in July of 1966. Mabel later married Everett Taylor who also preceded her in death in January of 1986.

Mabel attended the Dutton Methodist Church during her early years. She has been active in the Verden United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women since 1964. Mabel rang the bell for the church each Sunday morning until 2001.

Mabel enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and her daily walk to the Verden Nutrition Center for lunch with her friends. She loved to sit on her porch swing.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters, two daughters, one granddaughter and one great grandchild.

Survivors include: 2 sons; Ralph Graham, of Chow Chilla, California, and Donald Graham, of Verden; 3 daughters: Iva Cramer of Murdock, Kansas, Jean Callies of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Lois Roache, of Seminole, Texas; sister: Margaret Janssen Cavet, of Woodward; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; ten great, great grandchildren, two great, great, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of McRay's Verden Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Verden United Methodist Church.

Mattie Lou Taylor

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church for Miss Mattie Lou Taylor with Rev. P. F. Harmon officiating, assisted by Rev. John Bishop and Rev. Hamilton.

Music for the service was furnished by Miss Jean Zipse, Miss Betty Hamrick, Miss Mary Fitzgerald, Miss Louise Ransbarger, Miss Denzil Lamar and Miss Ruth Adkisson, who sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "In the Garden," and "Asleep in Jesus." Miss Coleta Nuernberger played the piano accompaniment.

Flower girls were Miss Madge Pease, Miss Lillian Nath, Miss Charlotte Nowland, Miss Imogene Dayton, Miss Dorothy O'Neal, Miss Adeline MaGuire, Miss Carol Franklin and Miss Patsy Ruth Fowler.

Honorary pallbearers were Miss Valarie Monroe, Miss Mary Beauchamp, Miss Hazel Willis, Miss Bonnie Jo Dunlap, Miss Phoeba Ann Fowler and Miss Marjorie June Allen.

Pallbearers were Richard Talkington, Hugh Melton Bohannon, Allen Adkisson, Gerard Osborne, Johnny Whitley, Charles Kern, Bobby Fitzgerald and J. E. Sparks.

Mattie Lou, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Taylor, was born November 19, 1926, three and one half miles west of Verden and departed this life at the Kiowa Indian Hospital, Lawton, Oklahoma, March 14, 1941 at the age of 14 years, 3 months and 27 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her father and mother, one sister, Georgia, two brothers, C. W. and Charles Curtis. Her grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Taylor and a host of relatives, friends and classmates.

She was converted in the Baptist church in January 1939. She was graduated from the Verden Grade School May 1940, and was a member of the Freshman class. She was a member of the F. H. O. and the Glee Club.




The floral offerings surpassed in profusion and beauty anything ever seen here before. On a card appended could appropriately have been placed these words "These flowers, so typical of the life of her we mourn, mutely speak the pathis of a parting word, and are placed upon this casket by friends who loved the sweet sleeper. On these petals are tears for the parting, and hopes for the meeting beyond the gates."

Karen Jean [Randle] Taylor

Karen Rhodes Taylor was born March 26, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio to Harrell and Wanda [Milam] Randle. She passed away Oct. 5, 2003, at 47 years of age.

Taylor graduated from Verden High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Verden.

She has lived in the Tuttle area for the last nine years. She enjoyed making people smile and will be missed very much by her family and friends.

Survivors include Dave of the home in Tuttle; sons Eric Jantz and wife Tisha of Chickasha, Dusty Rhodes and wife Carissa of Newcastle, Buddy Rhodes of California; Sherry Diane Brown and husband Jimmy of Blanchard. Melissa Taylor of Lawton and Jesse Taylor of Bridge Creek; eight granddaughters, two grandsons; her parents Harrel and Wanda Randle of Verden; brothers and sisters Shirley Pugh and husband Jackie of Verden and Keith and his wife Tammy of Verden; numerous other friends and relatives.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Verden. Rev. Sam Milam will officiate with interment held in the Verden Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard.

Karen Jean [Randle] Taylor

Karen Taylor was born March 26, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio, to Harrel and Wanda [Milam] Randle.

She passed away after a long illness at her home in Bridge Creek.

She was 47 years old.

Karen graduated from Verden High School where she was a member of the FHA and a cheerleader for the Verden Basketball team where she also played basketball.

She was a very gifted writer of poetry.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Verden.

Survivors include her husband: Dave Taylor of the home in Bridge Creek; sons: Eric and wife, Tisha Jantz of Chickasha, Dustin and wife, Carissa Rhodes of Newcastle, Buddy Rhodes of California, and Jesse Taylor of the home; daughters: Sherry and husband, Jimmy Brown of Blanchard, Melissa Taylor of Lawton; seven granddaughters and 2 grandsons; parents: Harrel and Wanda Randle of Verden; brothers and sisters: Shirley and husband, Jackie Pugh of Verden, Diana and husband, Allen Cooper of Chickasha, David Randle, Keith and wife, Tammy Randle of Verden; the Taylor family of the Bridge Creek areas; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were family members: Roy Taylor, Jimmy Brown, Keith Randle, Dusty Rhodes, Murl and Chris Pugh.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2003, in the First Baptist Church, Verden, with Karen's uncle, Rev. Sam Milam officiating.

Interment was held in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard.

Lemonda Taylor

Lemonda, the 4 years, 8 months, and 3 day old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Taylor, succumbed with double pneumonia at the Bonnell Clinic at Chickasha, Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor reside north of Chickasha, on the Geo. West farm but formerly lived west of Verden.

Rev. F. L. Giles conducted the funeral service which was held at the Hansen Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. Misses Precilla Lee Heisler, Henrietta Crumm, Roberta Jackson and Edity King sang special music during the service.

The little body was laid to rest in the Verden cemetery, with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of burial arrangements.
