James Harvey Cox
January 11, 1892 ~ December 30, 1957


J. H. COX SERVICES HELD ON JANUARY 1

Funeral services for Mr. J. H. Cox were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, at the First Baptist Church, Verden. Mr. J. D. Bryant of Lindsey, Okla., minister of the Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Music was furnished by the Church of Christ choir from Lindsey.

Casket bearers were R. V. McDonald and Alvin Deason of Anadarko, Henry Horn, Russell Hamrick, Roy Hamrick and Herman Louis.

James Harvey Cox was born on January 11, 1892 in Tom Green County, Texas and passed away at his home in Verden on December 30, 1957 at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 19 days.

Mr. Cox came to Oklahoma with his family in 1902. He was married to Miss Ruth Fisher on August 30, 1914 at Fort Cobb. The family came to Verden in 1923, moved to Anadarko in 1948 and back to Verden August 14, 1957 when he retired.

He joined the Church of Christ at Pocasset in 1943. His membership was later moved to the Verden Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Unruh, Chickasha route; five sons, Olven Cox of Tulsa, J. V. Cox of Massena, New York and Vernon Cox and Kenneth Cox of Chickasha; 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Andes of Anadarko, Mrs. Lulu Stipes of Wichita Falls, Texas and Mrs. Charlotte Cocheran of Brentwood, Calif. and two brothers, J. N. Cox, Jr. of Eureka, Calif. and Dewey Cox of Farmington, New Mexico.

Ruth [Fisher] Cox
April 5, 1896 ~ June 1, 1985


VERDEN - Services for Ruth Fisher Cox, 89-year-old Verden resident, were held at 10 a.m. today in the Verden First Baptist Church with the Rev. Burl Mackey, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Marvin Willis.

Mrs. Cox was born April 5, 1896 in Pekin, Ill., and died Saturday in Chickasha.

She moved to Fort Cobb with her parents as a child and was later married to James Harvey Cox. The couple farmed in the Verden and Dutton area a number of years. After retiring from farming, they moved to Anadarko where they operated the South Side Grocery until August 1957. They then moved to Verden. Her husband died December 29, 1957.

Mrs. Cox was a member of the Church of Christ. She had been a resident of the Shannon Springs Nursing Home in Chickasha the past four years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Olven M., Vernon H., and J. W. Cox; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fisher; four brothers, four sisters, and a grandson.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Walt [Beulah] Unruh of Verden; two sons, Howard Cox of Gaffney, S. C., and Kenneth Cox of Chickasha; a sister, Mrs. Rhonda Pollock of Vallejo, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the Hansen-Binyon Funeral Chapel

Abbie Lynne Autaubo Cox
December 9, 1961 ~ June 30, 2021


Abbie Lynne "Autaubo" Cox, 59, passed away on June 30, 2021, in Edmond, OK. She was born December 9, 1961, in Lawton, OK to Vester L. Autaubo Sr. and Claudette Yuonne [Daingkau] Autaubo.

Abbie grew up in the Carnegie area. She graduated from Carnegie High School and attended a few semesters at USAO College in Chickasha, OK. Abbie was a proud member of the Kiowa tribe and Gospel Lighthouse Church.

She was married to Steven Cox on January 21, 2006, at Cedar Creek Church in Carnegie OK. She worked in home care. She lived in Verden, OK since 2003.

Abbie had a way of taking care of and keeping everyone in line. She loved her morning coffee from McDonald's and spending time with her grandchildren. Abbie love crocheting, making Indian shawls, and walking in the park.

She is preceded in death by her: parents, Vester and Claudette Autaubo; brother, Henry Autaubo; Aunt Phyllis & Larry Kotay; sister, Martha Autaubo; Daughter, Claudette Hedrick; Son, Timothy Haunpo & Nephew, Phillip Autaubo.

She is survived by her: Husband, Steven Cox, of the home, Verden, OK, Daughters: Amanda D Shaw Chickasha, OK, Stephanie D Spinnie & husband, Eric, Chickasha, OK, Amber Cook & husband, James, Chickasha, OK, Ashlee Gilbreath & husband, Galen, Chickasha, OK, Laura Autaubo & companion, Jack Mohn, Tulsa, OK, Son: Terry Lee Dykeman, Chickasha, OK 7 Grandchildren: Deon Autaubo, Paulus Shaw, Strider Spinnie, Arya Spinnie, Ellie Autaubo, Nikkita Cook, Able Cook, 1 Great-grandchild: Suveana Ligons, Sisters: Annette Tahhahwah; Janet Haunpo; Tammy Wadley; Lori Hockey; Mary Ella Autaubo; Neysha Varela; Shana Manning; Lanora Autaubo, Brothers: Wendell Ray Autaubo; Vester Lee "JJ" Autaubo Jr; Franklin Scott Autaubo; Robbie Autaubo; Ben Autaubo; Morton Autaubo. Loved by numerous family members and friends.
