John Burks one of Verden pioneer citizens died at his home Wednesday morning March 18th at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 6 days.

Mr. Burks had been in ill health for several years but his condition became serious several weeks ago.

Mrs. Burks is in a Chickasha hospital receiving treatment for a broken hip bone, was told of her husband's death soon after it happened. She seemed to muster courage and is faithfully striving to be stong in her bereavement.

Mr. and Mrs. Burks owned and operated a bakery in Verden 16 years ago, later sold out and bought a farm 3 miles northeast of Verden where they now live. They have lived in and around Verden 55 years.

All their children were home recently to enjoy a family reunion. One of the children stated to us they felt like [it] would be the last time the entire family would be together.

Those surviving him are his wife Maggie A. Burks; five children, Mary Jane Molsenbocker of Bartlesville, Okla.; Rayford Burks of Verden; Herman Burks of the U S Marines; Frank Burks of Roswell, N. M.; Dorothy Lee Perry of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Wade and Mrs. Maggie Turney of Smithville, Texas; Mrs. Edna Nale of Fort Worth, Texas.

The funeral services will be held at the Baptist church of Verden at 230 o'clock Sunday with Rev. E. L. Spann pastor, conducting the services.

Burial will be made at Verden cemetery with Hansen Funeral Home in charge.
