John Marlow Murphy

John Marlow Murphy, 73, was born on April 11, 1933 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He passed away on November 25, 2006 at Integris hospital in Oklahoma City from complications after heart surgery

The family moved from Chickasha to Oklahoma City in the mid 1940's.

John attended Central High School, later graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1951 with a BA in English. He then earned his Master's degree in English, in 1954 and taught English and Humanities for over 45 years at OU, OCU, OCCC and Rose State College, before retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the National English Teacher's Association, Poetry Society of Oklahoma, as well as many other organizations. He loved opera and was an avid admirer of Native American Art.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Geneva Murphy, and his sister Janice Wright. He leaves behind many close friends and cousins, including Vinson Chuck Smith of the home, Polly Wright of Maui, HI. and Anna Mae Conrady of Oklahoma City.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 26, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Monday, November 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., both at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, OK.
