Leah Madge "Madge" [Pease] Cox
April 5, 1926 ~ July 30, 2014


Madge Cox, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Madera Community Hospital, Madera, California. She was born in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma on April 5, 1926 to Jim and Bernice Pease.

When Madge was twelve years old the family moved to Verden, Oklahoma where she graduated from Verden High School.

After graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart Earl Cox, Jr on December 2, 1944. They lived on a farm 10 miles north of Verden before moving to California in 1958.

She was later employed by Continental Telephone Company in Dos Palos, CA as a line assignor for 12 years. In 1975 she and her husband moved to Chowchilla, CA where she worked for P.G. and E as a clerk at the local office. She retired in 1981 and enjoyed her activities of sewing, cooking, and reading. She was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church in Chowchilla.

She is survived by her husband Earl Cox, daughter Joy Gowens and husband Ron, two grandchildren Janea Marks and husband Barry, Kip Gowens and wife Danae, four great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Verden. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Verden or the American Heart Association.

Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Billy Calvin "Bill" Cox
September 28, 1927 ~ April 2, 2005


Funeral services for Bill Cox, 77, of Chickasha will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at The First Baptist Church in Chickasha.

Bill Cox was born September 28, 1927 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He was the son of Luther and Ruby Elston Cox. He died Saturday, April 2, 2005 in Chickasha.

Mr. Cox had lived in Chickasha his entire life. He was a Brick Mason.

He served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a part of the occupational force in Japan.

He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Chickasha where he served as Chairman of the Trustees.

He was also a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local #5 of Oklahoma City. He was also State Conference Secretary of the Oklahoma Brick Layers Union and served on the Board of Directors of AFL-CIO.

He was a Two Time Grady County Chairman of The Democratic Party.

He and Dorothy Kathleen Harriman were married September 18, 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Boyd Cox, and an infant sister, Carmen Cox.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cox of the home; two sons, Stephen Ray Cox and wife Lisa of Chickasha and Mark Allen Cox of Ninnekah; one daughter, Karen Stacey Grammer and husband Larry of Chickasha; one sister, Wilma Cox of Ninnekah; two brothers, Ben Cox of Ninnekah and Elmer Cox of Lake Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Sandra, Sherry, Terri, Christopher, Claris and Ford; one great granddaughter, Savannah.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Dora Jean [Cotten] Cox
July 25, 1928 ~ May 2, 2017


Dora Jean Cox was born the daughter of Horace Cotten and Edith Powers Cotten on July 25, 1928, in Carnegie, Oklahoma. She died on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in Chickasha.

Before getting married, Dora worked as a beautician. She married Jerrold Cox on New Years Eve in 1950 and they made their home east of Dutton. Soon thereafter, she and Jerrold moved to Oklahoma City. Thirteen years later, they moved to Verden. Dora was a member of the Laverty Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and served in other teaching positions for over 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Edith Cotten, her husband Jerrold Cox, and her daughter Debra McCool.

Survivors include son-in-law and wife Terry and Janet McCool; grandson Chris McCool; granddaughter and husband Tracey and Heath Payne; great grandchildren Logan Payne and Ethan Payne; sister and husband Coleta and Victor Stephens; brother and wife Jerry and Lillian Cotten.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Laverty Baptist Church. Rev. J.V. Lobaugh will officiate. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of McRay Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Sylvia Pearl Lidbury Cox, 74, of Duncan, Oklahoma were held Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:30 AM at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with ministers John Bailey and Dan Meyers officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, Okla.

Sylvia was born January 26, 1931 in Bengough, Saskatchewan, Canada to Edward & Pearly [Head] Lidbury and died February 4, 2005 in Duncan, Okla.

Sylvia was a homemaker and formerly a member of the Duncan Art Guild. She was a member of the Chisolm Trail Church of Christ.

Sylvia was married to Glennis O. Boatwright September 4, 1949. He preceded her in death April 9, 2000. She was married to Roy Cox December 30, 2002.

Sylvia was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laurie Alta Boatwright and one daughter-in-law, Linda Lou Boatwright.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Roy Cox of Burford, Ontario, Canada; two sons, Glen W. Boatwright and wife Cheryl of Oskaloose, Kan., James Chesley Boatwright of Franklin, Tenn.; four daughters, Kathy Boatwright Frias and husband Robert of Cleveland, TX, Janice Boatwright Pringle and husband Wayne of Ft. Worth, TX, Debbie Boatwright Brock and husband Donny of Duncan, OK, and Sonya Christine Boatwright of Duncan, OK; one brother, David & Shirley Lidbury of Airdrie, Alberta, Canada; one sister, Mary & Harold Orr of Saskatchewan, Canada; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale & Ruby Boatwright of Chickasha, OK; brother-in-law, Guy Boatwright of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Corrine Boatwright of Alex, OK; many nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren, Laurie, Tim, Lisa, John, Paul, Adam, Jared, Shea, Dalton, Ashton, William; 15 step-grandchldren and six great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions should be made to the Chisolm Trail Church of Christ Building Fund.

Jerrold Daniel Cox

Funeral service for Jerrold Daniel Cox, age 84, of Chickasha, OK will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Verden, OK. Rev. J.V. Lobaugh will officiate and Rev. David Hall will assist.

Jerrold Daniel Cox was born the son of Earl S. Cox and Esther Handke Cox on March 7, 1931 in Pocasset, OK. He died on June 14, 2015 in Chickasha.

Jerrold grew up in the Dutton area and graduated from Verden High School. He married Dora Jean Cotten on New Years Eve in 1950 in Carnegie, OK and they initially made their home east of Dutton. They moved to Oklahoma City soon after where he worked as a machinist for 13 years. After they moved to Verden he worked for Chickasha Manufacturing for 27 years and also raised cattle. Jerrold was a deacon in the Baptist church in Oklahoma City, Verden First Baptist Church and Laverty Baptist Church for many years.

Jerrold was preceded in death by his father and mother Earl and Esther Cox; sister Lillian Cassel; daughter Debra McCool; sister-in-law Madge Cox; and brother-in-law Carl Nelson.

Survivors include his wife Dora Jean Cox; brother Earl Cox; sister Lucille Nelson; son-in-law and wife Terry and Janet McCool; grandson Chris McCool; granddaughter and husband Tracey and Heath Payne; and great-grandson Logan Payne.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

Dorothy Kathleen [Harriman] Cox
April 29, 1932 ~ September 25, 2015


Dorothy Kathleen Cox was born April 29, 1932 in Hoffman, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of six children of Burl William and Dorothy Patricia [Lange] Harriman. She died Friday, September 25, 2015 in Chickasha, OK at the age of 83.

The family moved to Chickasha in December of 1945. Her mother took a position at the Chickasha Post Office, her father was an Ordained Baptist Minister and ran a Texaco Filling Station at 4th and Minnesota. They wanted their children to go to college and all of them did graduate from college, five becoming teachers and one an engineer.

Dorothy graduated from Chickasha High School in 1950. She received a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1954 from Oklahoma College for Women, after which she taught at Chickasha Junior High School. She continued her education and received a B.A degree in Elementary Education at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts and a Master's degree from Oklahoma University. She taught Home Economics at Tuttle and Amber and taught 18 years at Grand Avenue Elementary in Chickasha.

Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chickasha, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Joy Choir, DEA, Kappa Kappa lota and the Oklahoma Retired Educators. She loved her family and her church. Her greatest joy was to sing about her Lord.

She and Billy Calvin Cox were married September 18, 1954 in the First Baptist Church, Chickasha. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter, Mark and Stephen of Chickasha, and Karen Grammer of Chickasha. Bill preceded her in death in April of 2005.

Other family members preceding her in death were: her parents, sister Margaret Jane Ratliff of Tulsa, sister Frances June Gideon of Los Lunas, NM, brother Don Harriman of Duncan, and a daughter-in-law Lisa Cox of Chickasha.

Survivors include: Sons: Stephen of Chickasha, and Mark of Ninnekah, and daughter Karen Grammer and husband Larry of Chickasha. Sister Barbara Noakes and her husband, Bob of Loomis, California, brother, David Harriman and his wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, OK, Grandchildren: Ford Filson and Claris and husband Ryan Bahm.

She and Homer Cox were married May 22, 1982 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Homer Cox of the home, her parents, Donald and Barbara Hamann, Wyoming, Mich., one brother and two sisters of Michigan.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
