Nora Florene [Brooks] Buckner Cole
November 6, 1913 ~ June 10, 2006

Graveside service for Nora Florene Buckner Cole, 92, former Chickasha resident, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha. Services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at the Waltrip Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.

Nora Florene Buckner Cole was born in Oktibbiha County, Mississippi on November 6, 1913. She was the next to the youngest of the eight children of Henry Madison Buckner and Fannie Estelle Brooks Buckner. She died June 10, 2006 in Houston, Texas.

The family moved to Athens, Texas shortly after Florene was born and the last child, Hazel Dell, was born there. Some time later, they moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma where Florene married Virgil Ralph Cole, Sr. They had three children, Roma Carlene, Virgil Ralph, Jr. and James Phillip.

Later Ralph and Florene moved to San Antonio, Texas and other locations in the state until 1979 when Ralph passed away and returned to Fairlawn Cemetery outside bof Chickasha. After that, Florene established her home in Leon Springs, near San Antonio and Bourne, Texas for about 20 years.

She maintained her own house, yard and vehicle into her late 70's when she moved to Cedar Post Park in Houston to be near her children in 1991. She was happy to be nearer her children, but sad to leave the home she had had for so long. She eventually made her home in Houston just as important by making her new neighbors into friends.

Florene had only lived at Garden Terrace for a few months, but quickly became the "Pet" of the unit where she was roommates with her sister, Hazel. She looked on the staff as if they were family and all of them came to see her.

She is survived by: one daughter: Carlene Foster of Houston, Texas; two sons: Virgil "Ralph" Cole, Jr. and wife, Martha Ann, of Houston, Texas; James P. Cole and wife, Marietta, of Kingwood, Texas; five grandchildren: Debora Simmons, Audley W. [Lee] Foster, Vanessa Rae Cole, Lori M. Bates, and Joshua P. Cole; one great-granddaughter: Samantha Faith Bates; one sister: Hazel Shellito of Garden Terrace of Houston, Texas; Nephews and nieces.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
