Lee Arthur Akins
August 21, 1896 ~ May 23, 1974


Funeral service for Lee A. Akins, 77, Rt. 2, Chickasha, was held at 3:30 p.m. today in the Northside Church of Christ, Chickasha, with Harrell Helf and Mr. Adraine Smith of Cement, officiating.

Mr. Akins was born August 21, 1896 in Gainsville, Tex. amd moved to Cement in 1944 from Anadarko and to Chickasha in 1959. He has been a farmer and stockman most of his life, retiring in 1959.

He married Ethel Cocheran March 16, 1919, in Cement.

He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ, Chickasha.

He died Saturday in Grady Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of the home; seven daughters, Mrs. Anita Sparks of Mangum, Mrs. Ruth Talbert of Chickasha, Mrs. Frankie Smith and Mrs. Colene Talbert, both of Cement; Mrs. Virgie Brantley of Chickasha, Miss Lela Akins and Miss Margie Akins of the home; five sons, Robert of Sentinel, Monroe of Cement, Ray, Charles and Delbert of Chickasha; one brother, Mike, of Chickasha; 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Ethel Lee [Cocheran] Akins
February 19, 1900 ~ September 24, 1985


Funeral for Ethel Lee Akins, 85, Chickasha will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 27, 1985, in Northside Church of Christ with Harrall Helf of Northside Church of Christ officiating.

Mrs. Akins was born on February 19, 1900, in Moorehead, Ken. to William and Clarinda Cocheran and died on Tues, September 24, 1985, in Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha.

She married Lee Akins on March 16, 1919 in Cement.

Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her parents, W.W. and Clarinda Cocheran; by her husband, Lee in 1974; by one grandson, Donald Ray Smith; by three sisters, Nora White, Corda Payne, Effie Hammrick; and by two brothers, Allie and Hollie Cocheran.

Mrs. Akins was a member of the Northside Church of Christ.

Survivors include five sons, Robert of Sentinel, Monroe and Charles, both of Cement, Ray and Delbert both of Chickasha; seven daughters, Anita Sparks of Mangum, Frankie Smith of Cement, Ruth Talbert, Colene Talbert, Virgie Brantley, Margie Akins and Lela Akins, all of Chickasha; one sister, Lula Elliott of Searcy, Ark; one brother, Wick Cocheran, of Cement; 29 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Raymond Ray Akins
March 4, 1921 ~ February 26, 2005


Graveside service for Ray Akins, 84, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha.

Ray Akins, native resident of Chickasha will be greatly missed by his family and all his many friends. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at home, February 26, 2005. Ray and his twin sister, Ruth Talbert, were about to celebrate their 85th birthay, March 4th.

He was one of twelve children born on a farm north of Chickasha. He grew up in and around Chickasha and married Bernice Whitfield in November 1943. He worked at WB Flying School until it closed. He then went to work at Chickasha Milling Company driving a truck coast to coast until they closed. He went to work for 19th Seed Company as a foreman landscaping highways and off ramps until he retired in 1985.

He was much loved by his two children, Dennis Akins, Chickasha and Sandy Akins-Pickard, Silt, Colorado.

He shared his humor, love and optimistic views as well as his ability to turn a flip on the trampoline with his grandchildren Renee Akins-Miller, Eric Akins and Samantha Pickard and his great grandchildren TJ, Dannielle, Abby, Chance and Carson.

Ray was well known for his generous nature and willingness to help anyone in need. He supplied vegetables to all his friends and looked forward to the spring to start his planting.

He and his brothers named many trails in and around Creede, Colorado where they spent summers jeeping and fishing.

He spent happy days traveling in his motor home to Arizona and Mexico, where he never met a stranger.

He was an elder in his church at Northside Church of Christ. He helped build the church in Creede, Colorado and had friends in churches from here to California.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, but remembered always for his love of life and dedication to help anyone in need.

He was a loved dad, grandfather, brother, and neighbor.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Akins; one son, Dennis Akins and wife LeAnn; one daughter, Sandy Akins-Pickard and husband Rick;

two brothers, Monroe Akins and Delbert Akins; five sisters, Colleen Talbert, Ruth Talbert, Virgie Brantley, Margie Akins and Anita Sparks; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Graveside service for Lela D. Akins, 72, of Chickasha, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, December 29, 1996, in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha.

Lela D. Akins was born April 16, 1924, in Chickasha, the daughter of Lee Arthur and Ethel [Cocheran] Akins and died Wednesday, December 18, 1996 in Oklahoma City.

Miss Akins was a life long resident of Grady and Caddo Counties.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Charles E. Akins.

Survivors include her four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Bernice of Chickasha, Robert and Della of Sentinel, Monroe and Shirley, and Delbert and Shirley, all of Chickasha; six sisters, Margie Akins, Ruth Talbert, Virgie Brantley, Colene Talbert and husband Lester, and Frankie Smith and husband Ray, all of Chickasha, and Anita Sparks and husband Don of Mangum; one sister-in-law, Orlin Akins, of Chickasha; 29 nieces and nephews, 42 great-nieces and nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

The casket will not be open.

Shirley I. [Clift] Akins
February 28, 1938 ~ December 4, 2010


CHICKASHA - Funeral services for Shirley I. Akins, 72, of Chickasha will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Shirley I. Akins was born February 28, 1938, in Cement, the daughter of Gordon Clift and Thelma Matlock Clift. She died Saturday, December 4, 2010, in Chickasha.

Shirley grew up in Cement where she also attended Cement High School.

On May 29, 1957 she married Monroe Akins in Putnam City. Shirley spent most her life as a homemaker; she cared not only for her own children but many others. She also enjoyed playing dominoes, collecting red birds, spending time with her grandchildren and celebrating holidays with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by both parents, husband Monroe, two sisters Zelma May Hudson and Louise Parks, and one brother Robert Clift.

Survivors include son Wesley Akins of Chickasha; and daughter and son-in-law Janice and Jeff Wynn of Chickasha, three grandchildren Justin, Jamie, and Jordon Wynn all of Chickasha; one sister Pearl Snuggs of Cement; and five brothers Marvin Clift of Chickasha, Dale Clift of Cement, Kenneth Clift of Swink, Arthur Clift of Cement, and William Clift of Cement.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
