Rosecrans C. "Ross" Phillips
December 29, 1861 ~ 1942

Funeral Services Held for R. C. Phillips Friday

The funeral services for R. C. Phillips, 80, were held Friday afternoon at the Missionary Baptist church, with Rev. J. J. Swofford speaking words of consolation to the bereaved family.

For several weeks Mr. Phillips had been gradually growing weaker following a paralytic attack and his passing was not entirely unexpected.

Rosecrans C. Phillips was born in Louisville, Kentucky, December 29, 1861, and spent his boyhood days along the Ohio river. When he was about 21, he left for Denton, Texas, where he took up the vocation of tilling the soil. In 1901 he came to Bokchito, Oklahoma where he continued to conduct farming operations.

Here he met Miss Dora Anderson, and on March 12, 1911, they were united in marriage. About 15 years ago the family moved to the Alex community, and four years ago Mr. Phillips retired from active farming and moved to Alex.

Besides Mrs. Phillips, the following children survive his passing: Elmer Phillips of Galveston, Texas, Mrs. Stella Hite of Texas City, Texas, Otis Phillips of Bokchito, Cecil Phillips of Galveston, Texas, R. C. Phillips of Alabama, Bishop Phillips of Winnie, Texas, Mrs. C. M. Moore of Houston, Texas, Joe Phillips of Floydada, Texas, and Mrs. Oneta Lewis and Miss Christine Phillips of Alex.

The Brown Funeral Home of Chickasha was in charge and the interment was in Morris cemetery, southwest of town."

[Note: Once again the editor has gotten the location of the cemetery incorrect; it was southeast of town, not southwest.]
