© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, October 26, 1923 Malissa Ann [Coppenbarger] Alcorn February 1, 1866 ~ October 23, 1923 Mrs. Melissa Alcorn Passes Away in Alex Mrs. Melissa Copenbarger Alcorn died at the home of her sister Mrs. Joe Elliott Tuesday night after many weary weeks of suffering from cancer. She was taken severely ill at her home near Lindsay some time ago and was taken to a hospital in Chickasha, where she underwent an operation hoping to find relief, but not so and the family was informed that it would be only a matter of time when the end should come. She was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Elliott, of Alex where she was given every attention that loving hands and sisterly thoughtfulness could devise, until her sufferings were removed by the hand of death. She was born in Missouri in 1866 and removed to Texas with her parents when about 12 years of age. Later she came to the Indian territory and was married to Alan Sizemore. To them were born three sons all of whom were present at her funeral. She was later married to W. D. Alcorn who died at the Elliott home about two years ago, having taken very ill after coming there for a visit, although he had been an invalid for several years. About 37 years ago she gave her heart to God and united with the Methodist church she expressed herself as ready and willing to go when her Lord should call. The funeral services were held at the Elliott home Wednesday, conducted by Rev. L. R. Jones, pastor of the Methodist church and the remains were laid to rest in the Morris Cemetery. |
