Colin Wayne Kennedy
August 10, 1941 ~ December 11, 2010


Colin Wayne Kennedy passed away December 11, 2010. He was 69 years of age. He was born in Lamar County, TX and was the 8th of 9 children to Effie Odell [Cutrell] Kennedy and Lee Stark Kennedy.

Colin attended Direct Elementary School, Central High School, and West Lamar High School all in Lamar CO. TX before enlisting in the US Navy at age 17. He served aboard the USS Ticonderoga, the USS Coral Sea, the USS Hornet, and the USS Enterprise operating catapults and arresting gear on the flight decks of those aircraft carriers. His nine and one half years of active duty was during the Viet Nam War. He ultimately retired from the US Naval Reserves as a Senior Chief Petty Officer with approximately 21 years total service. He also attended Dallas County Community College in Dallas where he completed 39 hours of coursework.

Colin had a varied work history in the Dallas area. He worked for East Texas Motor Freight, Texas Industries, and the USPO, before accepting a job with Western Company of North America in Lindsay, OK where he worked for 9 years. He never regretted relocating his family to OK and making their home near Bradley and Alex, OK where they lived happily for 25 years. After additional oilfield service work, including Washita Flow Testers in Lindsay, he and Sandy retired and took a marathon 6-week vacation by van to Alaska. The following year they moved to Lindsay where Colin battled cancer for 5 years.

Colin is survived by his wife of 4l years, Sondra "Sandy" Benton Spears Kennedy of the home and their son, Shawn Spears and wife Tami along with two wonderful grandsons: Ryne and Seth Spears of Lewisville, TX. He is also survived by his sisters: Juanita Foster of Honey Grove, TX; Ophelia Townsend and husband, Allen of Grand Prairie, TX; Vermelle Kirkpatrick of Honey Grove, TX; Rexie Parrish and husband James of Reston, VA; Phyllis Jackson of Dallas, TX; and Patricia DeWeese of Midlothian, TX, numerous nephews, nieces, and their families and one sister-in-law, Martha Kennedy of Paris, TX. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers: Kenneth Kennedy and Leroy Kennedy; two nephews: Randy Kirkpatrick, Duane Kirkpatrick, and Douglas DeWeese.

Funeral services for Colin are set for ten o'clock a.m. at theMissionary Baptist Church of Lindsay, OK with Brother Farrell Eoff and Pastor Jerry Jeffcoat of Commerce, TX officiating.

Interment follows at the Alex Cemetery, Alex, OK. Services are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay, Oklahoma. Condolences for the family may be made online at www.boydstonfuneralhome.com.
