Thomas Alford "Bud" Smart
October 12, 1939 ~ May 29, 2017


Thomas Alford "Bud" Smart of Lindsay was born on October 12, 1939 in Stringtown, Oklahoma to Walter Lee and Dovie Mae [Portlock] Smart. He passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at his home in Lindsay at the age of 77 years.

Thomas loved serving his country in the Marine Corp where he held the position as a Corporal E4.

He married Brenda Smith on August 27, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. They lived in White, Georgia before moving to Lindsay in 2006.

Thomas was a retired salvage yard owner and a mechanic for John Deere. He was a volunteer fireman and held the highest test score in the United States on the volunteer fireman test for 3 consecutive years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, collecting guns, and making his own reloads.

Thomas loved to teach the Bible and talk about the Lord. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Brenda Smart of the home. Son, Thomas Blane Smart and wife Angela of Aragon, Georgia. A daughter, Tanja Bishop of White, Georgia. Brother, Billy Joe Smart and wife Jeanette of Alaska. Sisters: Virginia Marie Houska and husband Earnie of El Reno, OK; Annie Hogan of Lindsay; and Alice Faye Hines and husband Bob of Lindsay, OK. Sisters-in-law, Dolly Smart and Barbara Lee. Grandchildren: Justin Blane Smart, Aaron Bishop, and Sheryl Cox and great grandchildren, Bradley, Hayden. And Zackary Cox. And many nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dovie Smart; grandson, Gregory Blane Cox; brothers, Harol Lee Smart, Robert Earl Smart, Herman Smart, and Arvel Ray Smart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Maysville, OK with Bro. Martin Lee Hines and Bro. Gregory Franklin Powell III officiating.

Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
