Marie Helen Kent, 83, of Tulsa, Okla., died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at her home in Clare Bridge in Tulsa, where she had been a resident since December 2014.

Marie was born March 24, 1932, to parents, Leo and Nuella Mustain of Enid, Okla.

She married Gerald Dean Hayes in 1951. They were blessed with two children: son, Rodney Dean and daughter, Jennifer Marie.

The family moved to Newton, Kan., where Gerald secured a job with Kansas Gas and Electric Company. Marie began what would be a 35-year career as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell/AT&T, retiring in 1984.

After suffering the loss of her husband and son, Marie married Harold Austin Kent in 1984, and resided with him in Miami, Okla. After his death, Marie moved to Tulsa to live with her daughter.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Hayes; son, Rodney Hayes; husband, Harold Kent; and sister, Dorothy Mustain.

She is survived by daughter, Jennifer Hayes of Tulsa; brothers, William Mustain of Schertz, Texas, and John Mustain of Enid, Okla. Marie was a survivor of breast cancer. She volunteered at hospitals in Miami and Tulsa. She enjoyed growing flowers, car trips with her daughter and brothers, collectible dolls, many of which she made herself, and keeping up with the many friends she had.

Marie loved her family, her church and her community. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious smile. She was a strong woman, who overcame many obstacles during her lifetime. Marie was always a lady but would not hesitate to stand up and defend her values and beliefs to anyone who challenged them. She was a delight to know and will be greatly missed by many who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Moore’s Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, Okla. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid.
