Mennonite Brethren Cemetery


J. W. (Julius) Balzer, 64, Mentone, California, died Wednesday evening after a one – vehicle accident near Flagstaff, Arizona. His funeral will be at 11 AM Saturday in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

Balzer was born at Hooker May 22, 1922, to Henry and Elizabeth Balzer. He attended grade school at Hooker and finished high school at Kremlin, then attended Phillips University and Oklahoma State University.

Balzer received his bachelors degree from UCLA. He and Iris Long were married August 6, 1960, at Akron, Ohio. They made their home in San Bernardino, California, where he taught math and science at the junior high level until retiring in 1984.

He then began to fly search and rescue missions for the Civil Air Patrol, lecture and conduct CAP seminars along the West Coast. He also restored Morris Minor Automobiles.

Balzer was a member of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church.

He is survived by his wife, Iris of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Beth) Johnson, Mentone; a son, Bud Balzer of the home and a brother, Marion Balzer, Enid. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Mennonite central committee through the funeral home.
